Maybe chop mounts extend the tube and slide those mounts down? Thoughts?

I mean with this much work I think working on a traditional spacer would be easier.

    Edit:
    Fuck all this

Here is the 2016 clock spring and hub that nrg has for 05+ looks like it might work.

Here is an 05 clock spring.

Here is the 16 clock spring. Looks pretty damn close.

So the only issue is... the splines on the column, are they the same for the 05 and the 16? If so the nrg hub for 05+ SHOULD work on an gen 3.

Not that easy, you have the tube part of the column, you also have the steering shaft inside it. The steering shaft has some kind of slip joint in it to make up the difference in length when the column is extended or collapsed. Either the slip in the shaft as well as the slip in the column need to be extended to have more slip of an equal amount, or the entire assembly needs to be extended (both the shaft and the column) making both the extended and collapsed positions longer.

I agree too many issues for this.

I'm going with option 1. Make a two piece adapter utilizing a nrg hub as the 1st piece then extend the airbag and wheel harness. The second piece I will have to get machined. I emailed nrg to see if they tested their gen 2 hub on a 3 yet. I offered to guinea pig for them. Might just order one up next week and try it out either way.

I feel like you're asking for trouble doing this.
As much as I wish we had more options.

Might be worse for you though as you are taller than I am. I'm only 6ft but long legs. All my pants have to be a 32/34 as 32 length is too short for me.

I've just gotten used to sitting a little closer. Not really a problem anymore.

Considering I have done this to...
    89 240sx
    91 325i
    96 240sx
    16 frs
    90 m3
    and many more
no I would not consider myself to be asking for trouble.

I have 36 inseam that is enough to make a significant difference. I also have a crushed disk in my lower back making straining for the wheel for any amount of time painful.

This can be done and will be. I'm not posting here to get told it cannot be done because I know full well it can be done. I'm on here because I want as many minds on this as possible because I'm likely getting a part machined and I have never done that. But thank you for your concern. Feel free to use this to your advantage and do away with your seat position compromise. Good chance the part I get made I will sell on here with a proper write up.

Sorry dude you mght have taken that the wrong way or I'm taking your reply the wrong way but ya.

Obviously for you its a bit more of a strain than it is for me. I can sit completely comfortable now. I was just used to sitting far back with my legs completely straight and still reach the wheel easily as that is what I was used to. I've adjusted to just sitting a little closer with my knees bent a little and I'm completely comfortable.

By all means its definitely possible. But for me the cost is just not worth it. Like I said though its not as bad for me as it sounds it is for you so I completely understand you wanting to do so. Its just anything over $50 would be too much to me as like I said I've had the truck for 9 months now and am completely fine with it now. It was just annoying at first.

I would be willing to drop around 800 to make this work. It is worth 100% of every penny.

That being said I have never tried to get anything like this made. I have no idea how much it will cost to get it milled. Or what type of steel to use bla bla bla. I only know what it should look like.

    completely understandable dude

I'm in the same situation with my bed rack lol. I want a bed rack for modular capabilities and mounting the kayak etc, but I still want some weather resistance like you get with a tonneau.
So I'm basically looking into getting a KB voodoo rack and going to see about getting a marine shop to make me a custom canvas canopy attached to it.
No clue what its going to cost but willing to pay upwards of $750 for that.

In my professional engineering opinion, this thing is gonna be less than $800 even if it’s a one-off. I’d SWAG it at ~$300 range.

If you get some dimensions and make a crude drawing, I can send it out for a quote from our machining division! We have a bunch of 5-axis machines that make problems like this go away. Steel is a great cheap material for things like this.

Try to figure out the thread it is and number of splines/OD too.
