I'm a new owner. I noticed the hood scoop appears to be cosmetic only. Any readonly not to open it up some?

A lot of people will argue that it is in a negative pressure zone and they will tell you that it is pointless...however that is the exact reason I opened mine up because it serves as a vent to let out hot air. When I stop and get out of my truck I can see heat waves billowing out of it so IMO it is a good idea to open it up.

It will let more rain and dirt into the engine bay making it more work to clean. And you have to take it apart, im pretty sure to open it you will have to cut out the black plastic piece too.

well...actually since it is in a negative pressure zone while driving air is pushing out / being sucked out. Any water that enters through it simply lands on that giant plastic engine cover. I've had mine open for ten years with zero issues other than panties dropping because I have a hood scoop...
