OME Dakar pack uneven

So I just installed a 3" OME lift from Headstrong with the dakar packs. In the rear the passenger side is about 1.5" higher than the drivers. I DO have the "A" pack on the drivers and the "B" pack on the passenger. I read about that before my install. Both are "+" packs. Both have the 7 leafs. I don't see any other noticeable difference. The front seems fine. I put the coil assembly with the little shim on the drivers. Any ideas?

 

I have the same issue with mine. It's not that much difference side to side but still not level. Ticks me off after paying good money for it. Hopefully someone will chime in. I've asked before and no answers yet

 

Not positive but I think the stock leafs are uneven due to the additional weight of the fuel cell but the after market leafs are the same so you end up higher on the passenger side.

 

Dakar is supposed to account for the taco lean by making their leafs side specific.

 

OME doesn't make them specifically to account for Toyota lean, but they mark them (+) (0) and (-) to represent over, right on and under spec. So you're supposed to put the (+) or (0) on the driver's side and the (-) on the passenger but that's really a guaranteed thing. AFAIK it's up to the distributor or shop to mix them for you since they are sold individually by OME. You'd have to ask Headstrong to be sure about that.

Mine leans a little even with a (+) and (-) correctly oriented and that has been true of several sets of OME I've had. Part of the lean is that your body mounts sag more on the driver's side so if there's only a little bit of lean your suspension might actually be level.

One thing to realize is that new springs are usually really tall and will settle quite a bit at first. Although 1.5" is a lot, but mine (CS047R on a 2nd gen) settled a solid 1/2". You might try putting some heavy stuff in the bed and drive it around to get them to settle.

 

Do you have a spacer on the driver side front shock? If not, trust me, you're gonna want that spacer.

 

They told me to have weight in the bed to help the nearly 4 inches of rake I got from the springs. I realize they will settle after a while, but seems the taco would remain even after settling

Not necessarily, it's hard to predict exactly. OME supposedly measures spring rate after they manufacture them and that's where the symbols get put on but they make a fraction of the number that Toyota does and they make tons and tons of different ones for different applications so there's going to be a lot more variance with any particular set compared to OEM.

I think having a little lean is pretty much inevitable. I've never had Deaver or All-Pro but I've had Northwest Offroad, Toyota and OME and I've never had a perfectly level truck. I adjust my packing to put more heavy stuff on the higher side and I never notice otherwise. I figure it's all good as long I don't look like a gangsta or drive in circles.

 

I guess I will swap the springs even though I know the "A" is supposed to be on drivers but they are both + packs.

 

Yo man that's a lot of work, relax for a second. Drive around for a couple weeks and see if it changes. Put some weight back there, take it over some speed bumps. It's not going to sit exactly level no matter what you do.

 

I'd either return them for another pack or flip them (Both I bet are a pain). But i've rebuilt springs so many times it takes me 45-60 minutes per side..

I've had two Dakar packs on two separate trucks. They settle after a bit, but 1-1/2 is pretty bad, and reflecting back on older posts with similar Dakar lean that the two sides needed to be flipped.

Both packs I have experience with were 1/4" to 3/8" higher on the LH side w/o me in the drivers-side front seat...

Idk man. That's all I got.

 

After hitting some speed bumps and driving around I rechecked on a flat garage floor. Either it settled a little or the ground before wasnt even enough. I am now a little more than 3/4" higher in the passenger rear but also the drivers front is about 1/4" lower so that may be affecting it too. I am just going to drive for a little while and let everything settle and then make some real thin shims for the front and back to level things off. I bet a 1/8" or thinner front shim and a 1/4" rear shim should level things much better. Just need to bust out the plasma.

 

I have two +'s and two a's. did everyone get an "a" and a "b" ?

 

Just got my Dakars installed today, and yup... 1-1/2" higher on the passenger side. I have 2 (+)'s. Have to check tomorrow and make sure there's an A and a B. Damn it!

 

Mine still leans many years later, I just decided to get used to the taco lean

 

Flipped the packs... now the difference is +.75" on the passenger side. That, I can live with. Just loading the truck a little more on that side for extended trips.

 

Something to try...measure the front fender clearance on flat ground, lift the rear by the differential just enough for the tires to be off the ground, re-measure the front fender clearance. This will tell you if the front springs are having any effect on body lean.

 

Ordered the EL095Rs, but I'm pretty sure I received the EL111Rs....there were paper stickers with the el095r number on them, but the spray painted number was el111r, and the brackets were the 'thinner' ones that the el111r went back to...
Any who, installed, and have ~2" higher hub to fender measurement on passenger over driver side. Both of the packs were "O". I didn't notice an A or B marking (fml), where is this marking?
