Coolant leaking under Engine, 99% sure its Waterpump.

I am pretty sure my waterpump is shot. I have a bunch of coolant leaking. My mechanic friend said its fine to drive around for today. But just to make sure that my coolant levels are refilled and to check my temp gauge. Any suggestions out there? I have to drive for my job tonight so it would be nice to have. Do you think its ok to drive with it? Also when I get in there to replace the pump, should i replace any other hoses or belts?

Ok, I am pretty sure my belts and timing belt were changed recently. Do you think its smart to just replace them while im under there anyways?

 

They didn't do the water pump with the timing belt?

 

Yeah at least in our shop, timing belt replacement practically obligates water pump replacement at the same time since either job puts you in the exact same neighborhood as far as labor and it's never fun to pay for the "same job" twice in case your water pump craps on you 1000 miles after your timing belt job.

 

From what I read water normally have a small leak right before timing belt change is needed. GL

 

I would have it replaced just to be safe. Wp and timing belt should be replaced together anyways

 

I walked out to my truck and there was a huge puddle of coolant underneath. So I filled up the radiator & overflow to the proper level. Next day same thing. So I got that kit off of E Bay from Aircabinman that included everything and then some! It solved everything from there on out! Like posted above, the water pump seems to be the 1st thing to go out.

I had Gates belts from O'reilly's before I put my current belts on. They're good belts too.

 

Add on cam seals, crank seals, oil cooler seal and hoses...etc...etc...

 

Thanks for the info, So this truck was bought off CL about 5 months ago. He "said" the timing belt was changed. But if my waterpump is going bad thats an indication that maybe he didn't change the timing belt? I think I am going to buy that kit off ebay and repair it hopefully within a day or two. I just have one concern with that kit from AirCabinMan. Are his parts legit and OEM? I would like to get quality parts so that I am not having my pump and belts fail on me in a short time after I replace them.

 

x3 Same here. All parts are correct / legit.

 

If they can't provide receipt for parts or the receipt for the work than I would never trust their word, this happened to me before.

 

Some funzanoon might have replaced the timing belt and not the water pump.

 

Seen this happen to my aunts camry. Or worst yet, they just tension the current timing belt but charged her for replacing the timing belt...

 

When I do take my car or truck to a mechanic, I ask to have the old parts returned to me so I know they aren't still on the car. I don't know what it's like in other states, but in CA this is a right car repair customers have.

 

How many miles were on the water pump?

 

My car is at 135,000. Hmm Yeah who knows what went on when the previous person had this work done. Alright well I don't really want to drop $800 in parts from the Toyota dealership for the belts and water pump. So i guess ill go with the ebay deal. Thanks guys!

 

Are you certain, or just assuming, its the water pump?
Did you crawl under there and see where the leak was actually coming from?

 

I am pretty certain, My neighbor is good with cars and has had experience with replacing these parts. He looked at it and called it out as 99% sure a bad waterpump just by looking at where the leak is puddling and dripping from. Its dripping from under the engine block not from the radiator.

 

I had a what appeared to be a leak from that area and it turned out to be a blown head gasket dripping down to there. Just saying.

I was adding about a gallon of water every time I had to drive it.
