285/75's are absolutely worth it. You will need a CMC and a lift, plus some trimming of plastic.

but I have an SR with no lift with the 16" Dark Satin Alloys.
Will I be okay with 255/85r16's?

All tacoma models are the same height...all OEM/TRD wheels should fit as most are 16x7 or 7.5. If it were an 8in wide that might rub...

Aftermarket is a toss up if you went that route. Offset will play a big roll

But you should be fine though!

 

Those look awesome, I've been considering them for my sr, what size tires are you running and do you have lift?

 

No lift, stock suspension 255/85r16

 

How is your mpg and driveability with these tires? Also are these Cooper St maxx quiet on the road? I know they will be louder than stock street tires but is it very noticeable?

 

I took about a 2mpg hit in the city and highway about 1. Getting 17 averaged now. No driving issues get it road forced balanced.

They are louder than stock, a tad bit louder than my falken wildpeak 265/75r16, but nothing obnoxious. My exhaust and radio cover up the road noise a lot.

Running 35 psi front, 34 psi back

Yea it does, I drive 90 miles a day round trip to work and only reason I got taco over tundra was mpg, so I can't take much of a hit on that, may have to just go with 265's instead, but I do like how the 255/85's look

 

Consider going to a taller, tire without going wider. Gas mileage won't suffer as much, and less chance of rubbing. (example: 255/85/16)

If MPG is a priority stay away from 255/85 st maxx because they are an E rated. There is a D rated tire Cooper S/T but you'll still take a hit in MPG.

255/85's are skinny, but he said still lost couple of mpgs. I agree about not going wide but I do want taller than stock so I'm going to have to figure out what is in-between stock and the 255/85's

255 isn't too much skinnier than stock 265. But ya, no matter what up size you make, you will lose gas mileage, as your automatically getting a heavier tire.

 

Thanks I'll have to check it out, I think my stock is 245 something I have an sr, so anything will be an upgrade.

 

I might be in the minority here, but the 255 80 R17s have improved my mileage ... plus no rubbing other than the mudflaps.

I have added a lot of weight to my truck and I usually don't even unpack it anymore on Sunday nights because I'm just going to have to pack it up again on Friday ... so in other words I'm running around town fully loaded most of the time. I was averaging 12.8 MPG with the 265s (C) and the stock suspension at 32 PSI ... with the taller/stiffer 255s (E) at 40 PSI and the stiffer OME springs (medium front/heavy rear) I am happy to report that I am now achieving 14.9 MPG ... did I mention that's with KM2s and not KO2s? I'm sure the stock 4.3 in the rear helps too, as 33s seem to be the sweet spot for the MT. Can't take curved on-ramps as fast as I used to but I don't care ... at least I'm not hitting my bump stops when I take a speed bump anymore.

Any idea of the weight difference between those wheels and the trd aluminum ones?

Also, are you 6 speed or auto?
