Ahh Toyota did a me solid on my 1st gen. My dealership didn't want to help me with the rusted frame but I got lucky and got a good corporate rep. That knew what they were doing with the rusted frames

I don't have a 3rd gen so I can't speak for the cx service there but I can speak for Nissan's shitty cx service with my wife's 370z. (On try #4 of the dealership trying to figure out why a hardtop ends up with the seatbelt holders full of water when it rains really hard)

Well to be fair, Ford doesn't need to replace frames because they engineered and QC'd it correctly bin the first time

While it may not be frames, they have a very bad issue with beds rusting. Didn't do a thing about it.
Switched to aluminium I guess, but didn't care about the customers with holy beds

After reading all the iterations of your epic saga, I'd say it's your fault. Not sorry.

My 1997 Ranger didn't last long enough for the frame to rust. In the 3 years I owned it I had to have two intake gaskets, an intake, a transmission (the 5 speed auto) and a driver's side hub replaced. Once the warranty ran out Ford wouldn't even touch it, said it wasn't their problem anymore. I sold it and bought my Toyota at that point, which made it to 2015. I like my 2008 alright (bought used) but I'm back to considering a Ranger when they come out again because I'm not enthusiastic about Toyota anymore, their trucks I don't think are as good. But I'm definitely weary of GM and even Ford still.

Really?? My bad- I was told that and didn't look anymore. They are nice trucks, my wife asked if we could get one over the Tacoma but the towing rating changed our minds. I'll edit my original comment- thanks!

There's only one iteration... I'm not sure how the second and third times is my fault.. sand and dirt should NOT be getting into the tank, and if it does the FILTER should be stopping it.

They've blamed everything they could from the headlights to me sabatoging my own truck, but haven't actually evaluated the truck... I mean hell, I have all the old parts, they didn't even send them and to be evaluated by an engineer or tech.

We have people driving through flood waters, crossing rivers and headlight deep in mud, but I can't drive in sand or dirt roads without issues, can't rinse the engine bay, or have mild salt water exposure....

Not sure how this is my fault. I did so much worse with my Bronco and had to replace an alternator and repack wheel bearings... Short of the pinion bearing going bad at 150k miles I didn't have to do anything but general maintenance, u joints, etc. I rebuilt the top end of the engine just for shits and giggles.. that truck is still on the road today, and the owner (I know em) wheels the piss out of it.

Was unaware of the rusty bed issue, my family and extended family drive Ford exclusively and run Ford for the business and none of our trucks ever rusted out. We lived in Alaska and the family is in PA- salt belt heaven

I've always stood behind Toyota and their customer service but I'm really grateful I didn't wait for a third gen

My wife's TRD Pro 4Runner was built in Japan. It took us almost 4 full months from time of order to get it.

I'd buy another 2nd gen Tacoma in a heart beat if my current 2nd gen ever needed replacing. I absolutely love my truck. It's been a tank and I take care of it like it's brand new.

Buy a 2018 Tacoma...or a hoopty. I miss my paycheck with the payment and mod costs.

I'd get something in Manual. Ram would be my next choice.

It would be a 4 runner only because my wife and I agreed the next vehicle would be one.

I've got a 2009. bought in November and the rust from then until now has been mindboggling on the undercarriage. Probably would just get a sedan or something sporty at this point. There's no good wheeling where I live and I'm not too keen anymore on dumping money into a truck that may just rust out before the engine dies.

So as I think about if a solid replacement for the Tacoma exists right now. Losing the bed is a major downstep.

But yes 4 runners are very nice
