Hallelujah I can use my cruise control!

Not through a full tank on 1.02 (and now update 2) but my most immediate feedback is that low-speed (~15mph) is much improved. Before if I came to a right hand turn at an intersection that I didn't have to stop for, it would lag for a couple seconds when I got on the gas and then kinda slam in. Very uncomfortable. Now it stays locked up tight and just powers out of the turn.

But at high speeds... this is what I was hoping for...

I'm lifted about 2.5" and have 31.7" tires, C loads. Truck has always driven exactly the same as stock.

When I would give it some gas to accelerate on the highway it would just continue to decelerate and then drop two gears and accelerate up to speed.... then shift to 6th and decelerate again. Wasn't always as bad as that but you get the idea. Cruise control was unusable on anything but flat ground (absolutely identical to my 2001 Taco).

Now there is enough power to give it that gentle breath of throttle and actually accelerate without downshifting. What an improvement in comfort.

A couple of months ago I drove three hours north of Vegas to Duck Creek, Utah. Uphill the whole way. Hated it. I had a little bit of a load for camping but the truck was just all over the gearbox all the time. Don't know when I'll go back but I'm really looking forward to a more relaxed drive.

Only got hard on the gas once, I'm really a pretty tame driver and wasn't in this for overall HP gains. But I can certainly say there is some extra stink on it as you get up through the mid range.

2.7L owners can follow this thread, and I'll update it once there is time.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-tacoma-2-7l-ecu-tuning.509865/

I haven't seen much talk about the 2.7L so it doesn't seem to popular (I could be wrong). Probably will happen after or at the same time as 4.0 since both use the older, much easier ecu (like literally 100x easier). Anyways thanks everyone have a happy sunday.

I actually have some plans to put some other platforms on the backburner so we can give the tacoma community better attention. We had no idea it was so large.

What did people not like about the initial 1.02 release that warranted an update? I'm liking the original 1.02, not sure what potentially missing with an update

Shifting got really wonky after a couple of drive cycles for me. It was upshifting way too fast and seemed to be making two shifts at once which was resulting in me bogging to the point of losing speed. I could keep pushing the throttle and it would just keep holding the gear.

Not trying to bash whatsoever, but I think my M/T gets to 60 quicker even though it's not tuned, it's just re-geared. It has a lot of extra steel weight.
Makes me have 2nd thoughts on even buying the tune.... Also it doesn't help that @OVTune won't answer my previous posts regarding the rev hang, and it was removed from his original post. That is the main reason it would be needed.

I haven't and won't unless the rev hang isn't taken care of. Unlike you I won't buy things and complain about them not having hangers, and not being welded, and continuously state the tune doesn't make this engine the 1gr-fe.
Like I said before I wasn't trying to bash his post. I tagged OVtune for a reason, to get an answer on the rev hang, not get a sarcastic post from you. In the end the tune would only be worth it for the M/T with the rev hang taken care of.

So I know what you mean by rev-hang and the stock throttle mapping was garbage. Even still, I had no issue with rev-hang since after a while you compensate by lifting off the throttle earlier when you want to shift. It's a bullhshit solution, but it works on the stock tune. This isn't a sportscar and there are MECHANICAL reasons that the engine won't drop from 4k to 2k in 0.5s. It just isn't going to happen regardless of tuning.

You do realize that the throttle mapping with this tune has been completely rewritten right? To answer your question pointedly, no there is no rev hang, any more than what should be expected. You let off the throttle and the revs drop. If that isn't working for you, let off the gas pedal sooner. IDK what else to tell you.

There is really nothing to bash. You can see how the needle climbs. You hear me hit the rev limiter and not really bang the gears. The pedal is to the floor. when I am accelerating . I think Matt is correct. Until he gets a manual tranny truck on the Dyno, we are stuck with the auto trucks left overs. The truck feels way better then stock. I'm going to run the tune and see how it goes.
