What would you do

  1. Fuck it squeeze every last penny and get the TRD OR

    32.2%
  2. Get sr5 4x4 and put rear lockers/ tires in the future

    21.6%
  3. Keep 370z and deal with it until more money is available

    46.2%

alright everyone, I really need some good personal advice. This might get long!

I've had my heart set on a TRD OR for some time. I went with the intention of selling my current car and putting 15k down. But the more I think about it, the less and less enthused I am about purchasing a truck that's close to 40k. I have a 370z and I hate that thing with a passion. It was fine 8 years ago, but different times.. different mindsets.

Thing is, I'm not financially in the best place to purchase such a vehicle. I don't mean I'm broke, i have a good job. But I'm looking to purchase a home in the near future, and still going to school to move up at work which also costs money so I have a lot of things diving my paycheck.

So question is, should I get the cheapest sr5 4x4 DC I can find? How much would that be (ball park) I do plan on taking Off-road a lot. Or just keep my car until I'm in a better financial place.

    Thanks everyone :)

    Like, so many.
A base SR5 (I4) is probably going to be about 28 OTD pre trade.
Honestly man, I think you should hold off. You really don't want to be truck poor. The Tacoma will be there.

Owning a home can come with many surprises. So if you are planning on buying a house in the near future you need to have money for emergencies. I just had to buy a new water heater at 450 dollars, luckily I have a plumbing background and could do the install myself. If you can wait until you move up and get a little bigger paycheck that would be my advice.

Get what you want while your alive. You'll be dead one day and none of it will have mattered. With that said, a loan on a truck will mess you up come mortgage time and you may kick yourself in the ass. Think about that first.

I was hoping you guys would convince me to buy it lol Good advice, thank you guys. I don't plan on buying a home very soon, but I am working towards saving up for a decent downpayment which is a part of the reason I say my money is divided. I'm working hard on my future, The truck wouldn't financially ruin me but I won't travel like I'm used to.. overall it just felt like a bad idea and feel like I could make better use of it or invest it. Those "wants" sure do work deep into your soul lol

Would this be your first major purchase with credit?
Having an auto note while trying to purchase a home isn't ideal. But, neither is having no real credit history when applying for a home loan.
Those are long term desicions that you alone are best qualified to make.

Buy the home First -then Later on use an Equity line of Credit on the home to purchase a truck & have an additional Tax write off instead of Separate Truck Loan & No writeoff .

Just so you know what can be had, I paid 32.2 OTD for my Auto OR DCSB 4x4. That's nowhere near 40K.

Great advice above. I say nix the SR5 idea. If you don't buy what you want, you'll buy it later costing you more money. I say sit on the current ride for now and then get the trim you want after the house purchase.

You could always get a SR 4 cylinder 5 speed 4x4 for around $25k otd. I would choose SR over SR5 all day.

I've had both TRD Off-Road and now a SR, and honestly I enjoy the SR more.

I agree save for the home. The life is short enjoy it crew has a point, but if you make smart moves when you are younger, you have to work less in life. That will bring more enjoyment to most people's lives. Drive what you have, save for the house. I'm itching for a Tundra but won't do it for the same reason.

aaaaaaggh. I think I might just keep the car. It's been eating at me. I haggled with a few dealerships and got a few decent responses. At the end of the day, I have a paid off car. The reality is I don't need a different vehicle. There's a lot of things I could do with the cash I'd spend on purchasing the truck. I guess it just became one of those things that you can't stop thinking about! But limiting certain things in my life might not be worth a vehicle. Even if it is a Tacoma :(

There's gonna be 2 camps in this thread, both with legit points. I try to ride the line between "young/foolish/happy" and "save everything/buy nothing/make Dave Ramsey proud". But if you're gonna get the truck, get the sr. Get it in a manual. Enjoy it from the iron block I4 to the 8.75 rear end. And with the money you didn't spend on a higher trim, get a locker and proper shoes. Wait until your stock suspension needs replacement, the sr shocks are working great for me off road in the northeast.

I would also consider buying a slightly used one on here a lot of guys who sell the trucks on here realize they don't like the way it drives or have to get something bigger for their family or whatever else reason. Still pretty much a brand new truck and will knock a few bucks off. Just an idea though, good luck with your decision!
