:facepalm:So I might be nuts, but I'm considering (after it's paid if of course) buying an access cab v6 6speed to put the engine/tranny in my regular cab.

Super expensive for a swap but the more I think about it the more I think it would be the easiest way. Everything that I would need is there to do it, all the parts i need in my driveway.

To my knowledge, no one else has done this so it would have a shit ton of cool points. Also I can swap my 4banger drivetrain into the donor truck to keep both functional.

I've been going through a bunch of different things in my head to gain power.. supercharge, 2uz swap, Ls swap, etc.. but idk how I could make the 2uz work with a 5spd and I hate gym in general as it is, and the urd supercharger seems cool for top end power but due to the nature of it (centrifuge) I feel like I might be disappointed in the low end power gain. The more I think about it the more this option seems coolest. I could also supercharge the v6 once it's in my rc :burnrubber:

I love the regular cab too much to switch to an access and the wife drives my double cab already. Something about the tiny wheelbase makes me happy.

Thinking out loud here feel free to chime in with your opinions

Edit:In the wrong damn forum... idk if I can switch it to 2nd gen or if a mod could kindly help me out?

I was considering the same exact thing. I believe the Total Chaos Tacoma race truck has the 4.0 in it... Would definitely be a cool swap for a reg cab.

There's a guy on here from Guam I think with a regular cab that has a Tundra v8 in it

This is something I want to do to my 2011 reg cab tacoma... I think a v6 would be the ultimate setup for this truck off road.

Just remember the 4th gen runner (which has the same size engine bay as a tacoma) had a v8 option... And that v8 is dimensionally bigger than an ls ;)

2.7 is a great platform for a turbo also

I don't think this is a stupid idea at all. You could probably find a rolled V6 truck that's just as cheap as sourcing an engine and transmission alone. Since you need the engine, drivetrain but also a lot of other things like ECU, wiring harness, etc. getting a whole truck that was once running means you should not be missing anything. You also know the lengths of the wiring and where connectors go should mostly work find in your truck and under your dash.

One thing to consider is that it's not necessarily true that it would be a direct bolt-in. I don't know that the drivetrains share the same mount points on the frame. They may, I just don't know.

I do know the 88-95 trucks with 22R-E and 3VZ-FE didn't have the motor mounts in the same place so you have to cut and re-weld them when swapping. The bracket on the frame for the cross member under the transfer was I think in the same place although the cross members weren't the same.

My point is to may want to do some research to know if a 2.7L to 4.0L swap is really the easiest path. There are usually common ways some engines are swapped into trucks, so you might find a 4.3L Vortec GM V6 already has a bunch of things like custom motor mounts and bellhousings to do it.

Man if I had the time and money and garage to store it in while I did it I would in a heartbeat.

Swap the rear for the elocker also if needed and rock on!

    I mean it makes sense,

I started into cars in the days of the Integra swaps into the EG series hatchbacks, 92-95 Civics had the same relative chassis as the 94-2001 Integras so lots of parts swapped over.

I'll bet your wiring harness is more complete than you think!

I've thought about a turbo but honestly I'd just want something super low spooling to get boost early and just wastegate it passed like 3k rpm. I really just want to be able to turn 33" tires comfortably and accelerate up hills lol

The problem with that is I'm not sure I could get the motor to work with the 5 speed tranny with the ecu, I generally don't know shit about wiring/programming so I'd hate to get stuck on that.

Also it's getting hard to find low mileage 2uz's

Plus you could supercharge it afterwards if you needed to, if ~330 hp wouldn't be enough for a regular cab idk what would lol

I mean to get a quick spool you could always run a small turbo or even twin small turbos

if you are going to do it..... do a 4.6L v8 out of the tundra with the 6 speed auto, similar price probably and WAY more power.
