I need to replace the front shocks and springs on my '99 base Tacoma. My Internet research keeps recommending parts that have three perimeter bolts on the top of the assembly surrounding the primary (shock) bolt. This won't work on my truck. My top assembly looks like the photo below.

And I've also attached a photo of the bottom of my assembly.

Can somebody recommend the correct strut assembly for my truck? I wouldn't mind a very slight lift (about 1") but the lift is not a 'must have.' I really just need to improve the ride.

Why does it look like the shock isn't installed on the right side of the lower control arm? Shouldn't it be up top to place the strain on the arm itself and not on the 2 bolts holding it in place? You'd think directly on the arm was stronger than 2 class 10.x bolts......

it's just a shock on 5 lugs, not spring loaded as a strut.

most rear wheel drive cards and trucks had it this way since the 70's. Makes it easier to change them out, just drop them down without having to unload the suspension. and as crux said it's just there to dampen the bounce, not hold the load.
