All they really care about is how much you are putting down, your credit score, and your total debt payment to income ratio, huge emphasis on the third one. If your total monthly debt payments including the potential mortgage to income ratio is under their acceptable percentage they don't care. For the most part mortgage brokers don't make decisions, they just verify your stuff and plug it into their system which says go or no go.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Are you ready to commit driving the slowest vehicle on the planet for at least the next 15 years then I'm going to say go out and buy the least expensive one you can find. Go for it. Edit: you have my permission

I say buy the house first and then see how you're doing financially for a truck. There are a lot of costs people don't account for when buying a house....

.9% for 60 months right now per add on tv during Packers game on Tacoma's. At .9 it's crazy to pay it down any quicker than Toyota is giving them away for.
That being said, I have 39 more payments to make on a 48 month loan to my CU.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck no. The I4 makes more power than you need on trails. Unless you plan on doing 120mph. If that's the case you should probably be thinking about custom suspension from geiser bros or something. The truck will drive faster off road than your suspension will let you.

I just paid off my Volvo a few months back . I made larger payments and paid it off 7 months early on a 60month loan. I checked my credit score last week, and the payoff was finally reported. My score dropped 20points, to under 800 for the first time in a few years. Apparently not having any installment loans dinged my credit. Current debt to credit is 4%.

Looks like I need to buy another vehicle (Taco?) to get my credit back up! lol

To me, the thing about the house is that it will take forever to save up the 20% down payment, especially as prices keep going up. Save all you want, and you may never get there. Plus, factoring in the amount of cash down that is not going into a more lucrative investment, taxes, interest paid to the bank, repairs and improvements, and I don't see a house always being a winning investment. Sure, there's always the "my house went up 100k in a year guy", but that can't be very typical. You have to hit the market just right, be in the right area, and have perfect timing for that.

I want to buy a new vehicle, I'm almost 40 and have never had one, but like the OP I'm hesitant to pull the trigger (even though I can easily make the payments), because even though I think it's a potentially lousy investment and/or money pit, I too am clinging to that "I want to buy a house" dream. It's the American dream, who doesn't want that? Not for any investment potential, I just want my own space with my own driveway and hopefully a garage to wrench on my junk and a yard to have a Lab or two running around in. Unfortunately though, with being single and not making 6 figures, that dream seems out of reach (as it is for a growing number of Americans). In the 60's my grandfather worked in a factory for what seems like peanuts today, had 3 kids that my grandmother stayed home with, yet he was still able to purchase a home. My hat is off to anytone that can make that happen today.

Different times! My uncle bought an apartment complex waaaaay back in the day for 20k. I think he made under $2 an hour. He said that you pretty much picked a house, singed some papers and bam. You own a house. It's crazy, he said it was a lot of money back then but he felt like it wasn't like it is today. It's not just houses that are expensive now, everything else is too..

When my 350z turned 10 years old, I decided to get a Tacoma. Still have the 350z though, for now anyways

A house use to be a good investment, bought mine for 32k, just paid 33k for my Taco. Maybe you could sell your car and buy an old Taco in great condition just to satisfy your current desire. Buying any new car is money down the drain. At today's prices, it will take 15 years to get a good return and with today's tech. we probably shouldn't keep them past 5. Do the math, 35K divide by 5= 7K plus tax and tags. Hell, you can buy a good used truck for 7 or 8K. In life, there's what we want, what we need, and what we are willing to pay for. I was 52 when I bought a Wrangler because I wanted one. And at 62, a new Tacoma and now I have freakin payments again.

:fistbump: I too kept my 350Z when I got the Taco.

To OP, there's way too many variables unknown to say definitely one way or the other but at the end of the day if you can afford it and you really want it...then get it. The things you use the most are worth spending money on in my opinion - house car etc.

Needless to say Taco is so much nicer than the Z when I'm just trying to get from point A to point B in town.

That's pretty much what I did and I have no regrets. It boggles my mind that guys will go pro for all the gimicky bs they tacked on. Save the extra money and use it to make the truck exactly what you want! You don't need mall crawl control.

Don't be an idiot. Wait until you can afford it safely.
Seeing it a lot lately at work with idiots doing stuff like this.

One guy some how got approved on a mortgage for a 780k house when he will not be able to afford it when he goes to trade school or as soon as he stops working overtime which isn't always offered on jobs. Cause he's only a 2nd term apprentice.
Another one went out and bought a ford king ranch f250 powerstroke with no down payment, financing is $1400 a month. same case for him when he goes to trade school he's going to be fucked.

A lot of places will gladly sign you up for said things cause what do they care? when you can't make payments anymore they just reposes it.
It will be your credit that gets hurt from it. Just remember what if something goes wrong? What if you need a repair etc?

Maybe look into buying something older and cheaper for wheeling?
Not sure if you meant youd be trading your 370z in for the taco.

It still is for most people as long as you don't overpay. If you are staying put for 5+ years, have a stable income, and live in a reasonable market, buying a house makes sense in most cases. The general appreciation is just a happy byproduct. The real goal is to have a place to live without a monthly payment.

I'd be careful about it right now though. When you see a lot of people who have no business buying the cars and houses they are, and coworkers are quitting their jobs to be day traders, there is a good chance we are in a bubble. Nothing like 08 is coming, but I wouldn't be surprised if a small recession is right around the corner.
