Can anyone who owns a 2017 SR confirm with certainty that you have (or don't have) TPMS? As a test, I removed my left rear wheel and mounted the spare there. I then left the original wheel in my driveway and drove 20 miles, shut the truck off, restarted it and drove back home.
I got no indication of a flat on the dash.

I'm thinking that maybe the SR trim levels use a wheel speed algorithm or something instead of individual sensors?

Hmm that is odd, I thought for sure it was a valve stem sensor. Now I wanna try this lol.

Take a close up pic of one of the wheels I bet you do have TPMS. I thought the reset for it to come on was 60 miles

The e-brochure shows all Tacoma models have a TPMS. But maybe you lucked out.

Ok, maybe there is a sensor mounted on (in?) the wheels, but what good is it if it allows me to drive 40 miles without letting me know that it isn't reading one of the wheels?

Starting September of 2007, Federal law requires all new vehicles sold in the US under 10k pounds be equipped with TPMS.

When you start the truck, all the lights on your dash should light up for a second or two. if you see a TPMS light, you have it.

Wouldn't it be crazy if you could let air out of a tire so the light comes on?

You have it then. It may be like my Subaru where it took quite awhile for it to register that it wasn't there. Once it figured it out, the light comes on instantly upon start up. It'll just take some time.

I don't think Toyota uses this type of sensor. I work in a Toyota dealership parts department and I have never seen this sensor for Toyota's.

Based on the type of valve on the steel wheels in your picture, you do have TPMS sensors in them.
