I am listening to the Hurricane ham radio net, Irma is already a tropical storm. It will still cause flooding and damage, but the worse is over.

I am sure we will see the full extent of the damage tomorrow when the sun comes up.

@Enjoihavok Any updates from your dad?

My mom has a bunch of uprooted trees and lots of yard debris but no damage to the house as far as she can tell. Might need to crawl into the attic to check for leaks. She will put me to work when I get home tomorrow.

Get them some solar charging lamps or something like that for Christmas. I have these solar lights that can also charge any usb device. Great for camping, but double for emergency situations. Luminaid or something like that, I got them on a kickstarter but I know REI sells them now.

It's been 16 years and I'm still pissed.

That fire insurance thing is comical, still feel bad for them though

I had one of those fuckers run up on me when I was under the truck. It scared a fart out of me for a minute right before I smashed it with a wrench.

Can't get ahold of my dad. Sister can't either. Can't get ahold of my aunt. Hoping my mom may know someone who lives near my dad so they can drive by and check on him. Otherwise I'll be searching an entire town trying to find my dad tomorrow.

Yah seems like cell service and land lines at very spotty, reading online stuff from people's posts as of 10mins ago, some saying att isn't working at all others saying Verizon they can find a signal enough for texts here and there but hard. I know when I call his phone it goes to voicemail, his iPad rings on cellular but no answer currently.

Sorry to hear, I am sure everyone is fine.

This is another example of why people should be ham licensed. I have been listening to the hurricane net for updates. The Red Cross has setup a net to help people get in contact with relatives in shelters, there is also a net to help track down people. You let them know who and where someone is and if a ham is close, they go looking to see if they can find them and get a message back to you (I am not able to connect to that net, or I would try for you, sorry).

I suggest a liquid lunch, it will help minimize the impact of returning to work.... or make you care less... I don't remember which one. Either way, it works.

Exactly. A double of Jameson or TD will make the second half of the day a little easier
