Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

The downshifting on the highway is likely not going to be fixed entirely. The gearing is such that 6th gear especially can only be used for cruising on level or near level ground. It will bog in any other scenario. 5th seems to be able to hold a bit longer, perhaps because more power is being made at the same load values, but it's still not capable of avoiding 4th gear approaching hills.

The tune helps, and so far it's making this truck much more tolerable...but if I had to do it over again, I still would have opted for the MT.

I don't have my tune package yet. Will the hardware/software that comes from OVTune allow you to determine which version you have? My truck was built in 11/2016 and has never been back to the dealer.

 

How do you like using the techstream software? What was the cost?

 

More than likely the "02" one like me.

The software will determine which one you have.

@OVTune does suggest going get it updated. Mine worked fine though doing 02

Today is the first day I got it connected to the truck, so I do need to play around with it some more. I wish I found it before I bought the carista Bluetooth thing. Since this takes care of all of the customization features Carista can do.

I could not be more pleased with how my truck now runs!! 1.02b seems to be the sweet spot...I drove it nearly 300 miles over the weekend, and it typically would have panic attacks when it saw the slightest hill (even with 4:88 gears)!

Even with a strong headwind and mountains...the truck did surprisingly well!!

Thanks OVT for all your hard work, and correcting issues that Toyota not only knows are messed up, and, does nothing about!

If I have the 03 transmisson update will I get 1.02B as well or are only the 02 update guys getting 1.02B

Seems like 1.02B has the best reviews as well as the 1.01B shifting

 

So with 30 more dongles, what order # do you expect to be shipped up to when they ship out? (Crossing fingers....order 2040)

 

I think you will just make the cut, last I remember he said he shipped out up to #2005

Agreed! I have the same set-up and while I haven't taken any long highway trips yet my normal commute is much more enjoyable!

 

There are information from your order confirmation email that direct you to OVT website to download the instructions. Since we will receive the updated dongle (no need to register / activate), you can skip page 4 thru 10 of the instruction.
