I've been driving much of the weekend with 1.02b. Someone already said this, and I think it's totally apt, it feels like the pickup lost 1,000lbs. It's like going backpacking, and taking the heavy pack off after a long day of hiking. My fear wasn't hills, it was pulling out onto a road with a 50mph limit, and hoping you could get up to speed. Now it seems like it gets up to 50 in no time at all. I'm very happy with the tune.

    sorry for so many questions,

    thanks in advance

I have a Leer canopy (200+lbs), CBI front/rear bumpers with winch and tire mounted, sliders, 3" lift, 285/70/16 Toyo RT's, Prinsi Cab-rack & lockers front/rear with 4:88's...probably 15/16 mpg at best overall, and no significant gain or loss in terms of mpgs..not really set up for the mileage game but, really does well for the way it's set-up.

I think OVT nailed it (At least for me) with 1.02b! If there's more to get outta this thing it will most likely be from a supercharger or turbo...

    Hope that helps

But what happens when the learning process kicks in? I had 1.01b and it was great at first but after a week or so the trans went back to limp dick mode and felt like a turd again. Granted it was a ton better than the stock tune and far more liveable but the learning process hasn't been mitigated yet. It was the same thing with Rev 1 from Toyota, "hallelujah the beast is fixed" but after 2 weeks it was the same ol shifting nonsense. 1.02b is a beautiful thing so far but if nothing has been done to change the trans funk then a good portion of us will be back here in a few weeks asking for 1.02c to come out. From what I understand, Matt has tried to address the sheer number of maps available in hopes that it would calm the tits on the trans but that caused a pretty immediate shifting issue that made him add the maps back in and leave it stock from what I gather. I noticed that many have said they have improved shifting firmness and speed so I'm assuming line pressures have been adjusted and such but I don't recall any notes mentioning it but I have a pretty poor memory too or may have missed it with all the other chatter that happens on this thread. Matt has said that learning is not able to be disabled either. My question for @OVTune is are there any options available to us to get the trans to stay how it is for that first week or two of a fresh flash or should we just reflash every few weeks? I'm not saying with any degree of certainty that the shifting issues will be back after a few weeks for a bunch of us but given that we are back on 1.01b's shift maps and my trans went back to it's old shift habits while on that tune, I have a tingle in my dongle that it will. I'm not trying to sound like an ungrateful troglodyte cause I am beyond happy for the tune that I have and would absolutely buy it again in a heartbeat cause it does address so many issues with this truck that needed to be fixed, I'm just trying to figure out that IF the shifting reverts back to it's old ways then should I just plan on reflashing every few weeks when it needs it or just deal with it or do you think there are still options on the table that haven't been explored yet to get this trans to it's happy place? Again, thank you Matt for all the work and dedication that you have put into this tune, it was sorely needed and from what I've noticed, you have made all of us happy which, on Tacomaworld, seems top be virtually impossible

I've asked twice (but haven't yet seen an answer) if it might be possible to force the thing to forget.what.it.learned, reset.itself, start.over.from.scratch each time the engine is started?

He's not yet touched the TCU aside from consolidating 4B03 TCU code with 02 maps so the line pressure, shift delays and all that are still pending as I gather.

For the learning, I'm seeing consistent performance using ECT even after the learning bit has done its thing. Are you seeing the regression with ECT as well, or only in D?

OVs the expert but I don't think that could be good for the truck. After a reset, while it does seem to improve the shifting, it also is relearning the fuel maps, etc., and while that's happening it's likely not running optimally for the health of the engine. I suppose if you did this and took it easy for the first few miles every time you started up you'd be ok, but for the every day I for one would love the shifting resolved and if learning could be disabled on the transmission alone - fine. To reboot the entire thing each time would scare me personally a bit

OP mentios the initial learning is only 10-15 miles, so its not too bad if you wanted to reflash every few weeks

This tread is hard to get answers sometimes due to the sheer amount of interest in this tune so i get what you mean about asking things and not getting answers. Miss a day on TW and all of a sudden you got 4 pages of reading on this thread lol. Yes, something like that would be perfect although I'm not sure if that falls in line with "disable learning" that Matt said wasn't possible or if there are other methods of achieving the same outcome.
I wasn't sure about the TCU part of things as that I have seen some people with TCU uploads and people like myself (4B03) without uploads. I had assumed it was just a difference of coding or something but it's unclear to me. From what I understood, the trans maps are all in the ECU and not in the TCU so the only thing that doing adjustments in the TCU will accomplish is shift pressures and delays and such, not the shifting maps themselves. Again, I may have understood that wrong though.
As for the ECT button trick, I tried driving with the ECT button and S mode deal when I had Rev1 done and my trans still reverted to it's old ways pretty quickly so to me, it didn't seem to offer any benefit to altering the learning process and honestly, I hated having to do so much stuff to just drive the truck, press button everytime I start truck, engage S mode and go through all gears then get on freeway and turn off ECT and put in D so I could hopefully gain a few more MPG then off the freeway and ECT back on and back to S mode.....it became a pain in the ass so I've given up on that process. The GF made a comment about why I always had to be pressing buttons on and off and playing with the shifter so often.... bitch! that's why you are sitting in the passenger seat and own a minivan, this is man type stuff going on here! Turns out she was right, I use ECT and S mode when I need that extra oomph now and that's about it, I want a simple process for driving, I got my other car for all the "man stuff"

This truck is unsafe/dangerous without this tune or at least not having the SSP installed.

Agree. Can't tell you the number of times w/ stock tune that I almost got hit when trying to come out into traffic that my 4 banger could jump into with ease. Miracle I wasn't rear-ended a couple of times...
