Haha, isn't that nuts? A 3/4 ton with a diesel AND 4X4 for less than a mini pickup. I wouldn't have believed it, until I saw it.

Height in discussion was 37s I believe. Guys regearing to 4.88s just to run 33s and still complaining about torque and trans shifting

Slow down turbo. The reality is, you are wrong here is why. That chart you are using, what vehicle is that for? I know the answer because I came from that community. It's Jeep, 99% of these charts are for Jeeps.

Case in point, a Tacoma running stock 31" tires with 3.90 gears at 65mph is not at 2756 RPMS, more like 2000. By that argument alone the chart says the Tacoma is severely undergeared, bump it up to 4.88 and your getting closer.

Read it. It says at the top exactly what it's for. 1:1 ratio. So a third gen Tacoma with automatic in 4th.

But thats the point. That chart was great back in the 60's 70s' and 80's when vehicles ran a 4 speed transmission with no overdrive.

Our trucks dont drive a 65mph in 4th. I have a CJ that does though.

No one here is complaining about rock crawling, anything extreme we low range.

I have 2015 6 speed with 31 inch tires. Toyota made a great vanilla truck. Meaning it is hiding potential torque in the drivetrain. If you want to create more response then regearing is a great way to do it. By no means is this a bad thing. I look at it like an opportunity to apply application specific gearing to accomplish the driving experience you want. Mine is lazy in the low end and doesn't offer a lot of punch until it gets wound up in rpms. While this is a very nice driving truck it could be a little more torquey.
Every Tacoma owner has a different expectation of what their truck will be. That is why I think it is vanilla and very easily adapted to each individual owner.

Iplan on 35 or 37 inch tires with front and rear lockers so for me low end torque is important. It will still be able to cruise on the interstate just fine.
