I like the 5th gen 4runners, my mom has had 2 of them now. She had a 2013 SR5 premium and now has a 2016 Trail Premium. My only complaint with the 4runners is driving on the interstate in a crosswind... they are without a doubt the squirreliest vehicle I have ever driven on the interstate. Some people on other forums have said that turning the caster up and getting a heavier set of tires helps a lot. You'd think a $40,000 SUV ought to track straight down the interstate at 75 mph.... it's only a PITA to drive in a crosswind... on a still day it's like driving a Cadillac. I think it's partially the soft steering rack bushings, a set of polyurethane bushings would help a whole lot I think.

I actually went through this ordeal. My first 2017 Tacoma had a faulty differential and the dealership filed a claim with Toyota. Toyota sent a engineer out and took it on a test drive and told them to replace the rear end. Only issue is that parts aren't available till 9/31/17. So........ I made a fess and eventually spoke with a General Manager of the dealership as Toyota Corporate themselves and especially financial were of no help to me and even used the words " voluntary repossession". If I didn't want to wait for parts and wanted to take it back..

I already gave the dealership and my trade in as money down, so for me to terminate the contract and walk away would have been even more painful... ( maybe not in retrospect. The F150 is looking better everyday) The GM did a swap/trade another dealership and a day later... A Magnetic Grey Tacoma TRDOR showed up.... Same color, same deal.. Amazing! I shook that mans hand.

Compared to my friend who had his truck at another dealership for the gasket recall... I think I was lucky..

Mine didn't get bought back, but I traded it for my Japan made 4runner. If I had had my taco bought back, I would have done the same. Sure, the bed is gone, but nothing a trailer can't fix. Very happy with the runner.

All of the 4runners are made in one of two Japanese assembly plants.

You'd have to get a 2500 or 3500 in a (regular cab I think) base model.

I was giving a 4 runner sr5 to test drive while waiting on my Tacoma. I was very unimpressed with the shift pattern and power. Another thing that i didnt like. Was the excesseive nose dive when hitting the brakes. The rear window would rise so much i couldnt see the traffic behind me. That isnt work 38k what so ever. I spent 33k on my tacoma and it handles and rides better.

You're right. I was just on Ramtrucks.com building one. I just hadn't seen one before.

Nissan Frontier, It's a good deal here in Canada. $35.5k for a fully loaded CCSB Pro-4x or $29k for a KCLB Pro-4x 6mt. Second choice would be a 4runner TRD OR but that's $48k

The Tundra is just so damned tempting though... They are so powerful for a 1/2 ton, they are just hotrods. Forget about fuel economy. Haven't voted. Yet. Tacoma fuel economy is terrible anyway. Still haven't voted.

Ram is even more powerful and gets better fuel mileage, probably less reliable, but much cheaper to buy used.
