I contacted the www.safercar.gov website already. The site is on the recall paperwork we all received. All of us need to do this ASAP and maybe Toyota will get their head out of their butt.

Been holding off taking my truck in for this. Seems like I should continue holding off. I did inspect it and don't see any evidence of leaking.

Is it on the list? Mine was and was not leaking, was a quick, 2-3 hr, in and out.

Mine looked EXACTLY like yours but my VIN isn't on the recall list. Still scheduled an inspection for my "weeping" dif. It was determined with a short appointment that it was NOT leaking. They checked the fluid level, and retorqued bolts. Fluid was not low. Meaning no substantial or any amount of liquid had "leaked" from the dif. My question to you is have you found any drips or build-up beneath your truck? Did Toyota check fluid level? If they did you have nothing to worry about. I suggest you stop reading to far into this.

Your VIN wasn't on the list so none of this affects you, but I can see your point.
Had the notice read that there are degrees of seeping that are tolerable then OK, but it's pretty clear language they wrote.

The difference is they'd have kept your truck, too if your VIN was listed. They didn't check fluids on mine because their claim was "not leaking" - because they wiped it. It's the dealer wipe job that has me more pissed. They gained nothing by trying to hide the seeping.

Take it to a different dealer if possible and explain you want your fluid level checked and the situation you just had. I doubt you're leaking by the pics you have shown. Difs don't justify a recall for "weeping". Hell all 4 of my tractors at work all have had the same issue. They get worked into the ground every season. Don't worry about it unless your low on fluid, on the recall, or it fails! If it fails you have documented evidence from Toyota saying it's not leaking. You're fine!

I get what you're saying. I used to drive a Ford truck so I'm familiar with name that fluid. You're missing my point, I think. It's all good, just don't call me back into the service bay and call me a liar in so many words. They have my truck now and I'm not too interested in starting over elsewhere. Because I got a Tundra loaner, and even though I don't really like it I don't want to risk a Corolla upgrade.

I talked to a lawyer today and he said that they can get me all the money back from the truck. But the shit of it is, I wanted that truck and all the other trucks by GMC, Chevy, Ford etc are crap that cost $15K to $25K more than this one.

My first service writer crawled under the truck with me and actually said "it looks like tire shine". I don't even use the stuff. I'd be upset if they wiped it and didn't check fluid or torque specs I get your point. Time to find a different dealer

My 2016 ORLB wasn't on the recall but when I check the rear diff this is what I found:20170910_174035_Richtone(HDR).jpg

Took it in to Piercy Toyota in Milpitas CA this morning and was told that a gasket would take 8 weeks to get. I told them to torque it and top off the fluid. I get a call from them about an hour later saying they had the gasket in stock and would replace it for me. Got the truck back 4 hours later good to go :)

Well this shit is over. Buying a 2012 4x4 manual and hanging my boots up on this 3rd gen nonsense recall. Good luck to all of you still waiting after 60 days I'm over it and needed to move on

Did you just ask the dealer to replace the truck? How did you get the 2012?

I sent this email to Jim Lentz at Toyota headquarters: My 2016 Tacoma has been in the repair shop for almost 90 combined days, the rear end recall was 79 days alone. I have been informed that Toyota is not extending our warranty for the number of days that they were in the shop. This seems most unfair, the least Toyota could do for the vast inconvenience is extend the warranty for said days! Thanks you,
