Okay, Taco Buddies I need your help!

    The problem:
Reverse lights don't work. I have aux LED lights in the rear that go through 2 relays and an on/off/on switch with 2 seperate power sources. So, I can run the reverse lights whenever I want...for camp set up, backing up, flashing tailgaters or as dust lights. Or I can have them off all the time. Or I can have them on when the truck in reverse...the relay trigger wire comes from the reverse light goes through the switch to the relay to the reverse lights. I also have my back up camera triggered by the reverse light wiring at the reverse light.

    What I've done so far:
I checked if the bulbs work...they do.
I disconnected the reverse aux lights just in case they were causing some kinda issue.
My back up camera is powered off the reverse lights as well. I disconnected this as well.
All my other lights (tail lights, license plate lights, dash lights) all work.
The truck won't start in gear so the PNP thinger is good.
I checked for power at the socket...none.

I've found loads of threads on Manual transmission reverse lights not working but nothing on the A340F.

Post #2 onward has the closet info but I still don't see it where they describe it.
    https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116/a340f-reverse-light-switch-help-294106/

I can't find the location of the reverse light switch.

The reverse light switch is the nuetral safety switch . Thats the thing you are calling the pnp thingy .
There are mutliple wires connected to the Park Neutral Position switch and the wires you want to concentrate on are for the reverse lighting circuit .
Because the vehicle starts in park , only one portion of the circuit is working . Does it start in nuetral ?

Do you have a multimeter ?

I tried starting in gear...no go. However, I don't recall trying to start in nuetral. I'll give that try as well.

Perfect...this is exactly what I need. I found it at one point last night, but a couple beers in and tired didn't recognize it.

I have a multimeter. I'll take a look today after work.

If it's a problem with the neutral start switch then moving the shifter slightly up or down but still on R would make the reverse lights come on. It would just be where the contacts are worn right in the middle where the shifter usually sits.

With a wiring diagram you can jump the wires at the connector to close the circuit and test if the reverse lights work.

It wasn't clear in your first post if the reverse lights work with your aux switch. If they don't work with that either then it's not a problem with the neutral start switch.

can you tell me what search terms you used to find the threads where the reverse lights aren't working for manual transmissions?

It starts in neutral as well.
I got continuity over the circuits RL and C.

Just for clarification the Nuetral Safety Switch is the grey box on the bottom. I tested the plug on the left. (that loose green wire is for the gear indicator lamp)

I think I just searched "2003 tacoma reverse lights not working", "2003 tacoma back up lights not working" and other versions similar to that.

    What does this thing do?
It appears the upper one is positive and the lower two are negative?
When I slide it up and down or jumper the pos with either of the neg ones A faint sound comes from under the dash

    Edit: key lock switch.

    I figured it out...I'm a dipshit.
When I first got my truck I had the aux lights relayed into the reverse circut under the seat. I had the relay under there and everything. When I moved all my added on relays into one location under the hood I just reconnected the reverse circuit under there with a butt connector. The connector came apart. I just soldered it back together and they work again.

Thanks for all the info and time you guys put in to help me out. This is what makes Tacomaworld such a good site.
