Can some of you who have camper shells give some advice on what to pay for a basic color-matched shell? I have a TRD Sport Double Cab Short Bed in Silver Sky Metallic. For a shell I would like a fold-down front window, basic sliders on the sides, and a locking rear window. Pretty basic, with no other options. I've been looking at ARE V Series or Leer 100R if that helps. Basically I was just wondering what others thought would be a fair price for when I get some quotes from local dealers. Thanks in advance for any info!

I would think you could find one for around $1,300. I got the basic ARE V with the roof rails installed but paid next to cost because I work for a retailer. I'm swore to secrecy though :anonymous:

1300 sounds about right. My V series started at that, but I added stuff.

I really think 1300 will be hard to find. I got a similar setup as you want for $1600, but I had to shop around a LOT. Found it at the 5th or 6th place I went to.

I got the ARE CX Shell with sliding side windows with pet screens, fold down front window with slider, and carpeted interior for 1800 OTD. Wish I would've sprung for the dome light and Yakima tracks.

Go nicer (higher end) than you think you need. Like previous posters - i wish i had the light installed, had the rack, bought one that would hold more weight, etc. I got a good deal but spending a grand more now might make you a lot happier down the road.

All that being said - I got an inexpensive, locally made (BC), one with sliders and pet screens. Works great.

I'm about to install a solar vent to help keep it aired out since I keep the dog back there.

Forgot to add I got the pet screens too. They were about 90 bucks installed. On my last Taco, I installed my own pet screens. Got some of that green rabbit mesh... the kind with 1" holes like this:

Unscrewed the inside piece of the window and cut mesh to size then screwed mesh back down with the frame piece. At this point it's a good time to re-seal the whole widow. My old one had started leaking. Re caulked it in side and out and it was good as new. The windows have gaskets and they dry up and get brittle and leak...that shell was over 10 yrs old though.

    I bought a nicro day/night solar vent https://www.westmarine.com/buy/nicro-ventilation--day-night-plus-solar-vents--P012_363_001_516

Damn thing is way too big. But, I've got it now so I'm deciding whether or not to install. 3" or LESS is really the way to go. I got mine on sale for 100 bucks. Now (while I'm waiting to decide) I've ordered a hole saw - damn thing needs 4 3/4" hole.

But, I know it will move air!

The problem is that it gets pretty damp up here and with the dog going in every day and no chance to dry out it can get a little smelly.

I went with the ARE V Series.
    Base price was $1200.
Windoors were $110 each (I work out of the back of my truck).
Carpet liner was $125 (prevents condensation when sleeping in it).
Fold down front slider was $85 (the only way to easily clean cab and cap windows).
I bought a 3 pack of LED puck lights for $10 at Home Depot and stuck one at each opening.
Grabbed a tent for the back (can't work all the time).
Took 2.5 weeks from deposit til delivery.

Is that cost? The local dealer here was telling me way more than that.

That was what I paid last June. Wasn't given any discounts or special treatment. Sunnyside Cap Sales in Gansevoort, NY. Third time I've bought there, and have always left happy. Wasn't impressed with my local Leer dealers.
