    Greetings all.

Just picked up a first gen Taco (2002) with 200k. clean carfax and no accidents the only real issue is that the airbag light is on.

I was able to connect a jumper wire to the obdII but the code is confusing..

it will blink 2 times fast then 3 times fast then 1 time, then 5 times fast.

    this would be 2315

its confusing because I thought the code was supposed to be a 2 digit code!?

    am I missing something?

    Thanks dudes.

Is there a pause between the numbers?

Here is 52...I know it's a 4runner but the diagnostics will be the same. 31 is the Right Front wheel sensor malfunction. That could be a bad or disconnect sensor.

I tried to download the manual online but the links are dead. If someone could PM me one that would be great!

SRS code 31 indicates there is a malfunction in the airbag electronic control unit (ECU)/airbag computer. You may need to have it replaced, as these aren't parts you can open up and change parts or pieces of it

Code 52 means there's a short to the battery on the passenger airbag

Sometimes another code can trigger a malfunction in the ECU, so try to solve code 52 first

Also, how is the battery? Sometimes a dying or malfunctionning battery can cause all kind of weird problems. And the SRS system counts on the battery to operate normally, so if the battery is bad, it may cause the SRS light to come on

Battery is about 5-6 years old but functions well! I thought this could be a culprit as well, but it seems fine.

5-6 years is a long time for a battery. Might be worth starting there and then moving on to 52.

    Thanks,

ill take the battery to advanced auto or autozone and have them load test it for me before getting into the other troubleshooting.

Battery is in good shape. its actually only 4 years old after I looked at it once more.

This weekend I am going to check the connections from the airbag control unit to the passenger side airbag to see if anything ls amiss before I start tearing into anything else listed in toyotas procedure for checking it.
