Has anyone figured out a stealthy solution for installing a Qi charger in the Gen 2s yet? Seems like it could be a useful cheap project for some down time coming up. I'm debating between installing it in the tray, like the Gen 3s, or just installing an extra tray in the console.

I'd install it in the tray like the 3rd gens. If you have the materials, you could make it easier on yourself and cut out a piece of plastic to "level-off" the floor of the tray (like the 3rd gens) which would give you space underneath to attach the actual charging unit. That way if you get rid of that device and don't need the charger, pull the piece out with the charger, disconnect the cable and you're back to stock.

I think this is a good idea. It would be a pain to open my console for my phone every time I needed it. It would be nice to get the Gen 3 pop out button to use as a power switch too.

Hmm... I probably could build this. Not sure how affordable it would be for mass production based on modification. If i get bored this week I'll look into it though. GREAT idea BTW. Actually OP, you build it! They will come I'm guessing.

Haha, I'm definitely going to try for myself but there's no way id have the time to mass produce them though. I'll be sure to do a writeup if I think its a decent enough quality.

This looks great! What charging pad did you hack apart for it? I was thinking about trying with the 3 coil one on Amazon that is only $20. What year is your GTO? I'm selling my TR 06' with 5,006 miles on it this Saturday...

I had to work! I've been trying to find a way to make it since I bought mine...5 years ago lol. I considered using vacation, but I had to use that for too many family weddings. I definitely want to get to ONE before it dies out lol

Yep...depends if I keep it. The lady friend is finishing her doctorate and will have quite a bit to pay off in terms of loans. Considering I haven't driven it in months, it may be best to sell it and get rid of some of those loans. Sometimes I want to keep it...sometimes I think I might as well sell it and get a C6 down the road.

Paid about $9 on ebay for the charger, advertised as having circuitry to prevent overheating. I purchased a few of them as I made a few wooden charging stands for home use. Since the guts are fully embedded in wood which is flammable I was looking for something that would not overheat, cost was also a factor as a couple of friends wanted me to make wooden charging stands for them.

I have two 69 GTO's. In 1971 my first Pontiac was a 69 Grand Prix, then added a 69 Grand Prix with factory 4 speed. Sold the first GP and purchased a 69 Judge, sold the 4 speed GP, and purchased a 69 Ram Air III GTO, the GTO's were keepers, owning them for 30+ years.

Time to revive this as Apple just announced their new phones (finally) have wireless charging.

Yeah, this would still be a great project. I'm sure somebody has done it by now. About a week after I posted this I switched over to Google Fi and got a phone without wireless charging.
