I believe you are correct. I saw it when we were paddling in Upstate NY. In fact we all commented that it was like paddling in a cup of tea.

Lol, the lake i had near my house in florida was practically orange. When looking up from under water. Not sure if it was from plants or this tracor that was rusting out at the bottom.

    Hey guys,

I'm RTT shopping and have narrowed my choices down to mostly two tents... CVT Mt Shasta and Tepui Kukenam. Has anyone seen these tents side by side and have any opinion on them as far as build quality, features and usability goes? Are the ruggedized versions worth the premium price for someone who will use these off-road (not hardcore wheeling but mild/moderate 4WD trails) 10-ish times per year? My budget is in the $1500 range and while the ruggedized versions are well outside of that, I certainly wouldn't mind spending a few bucks more for a better, higher quality, longer lasting product. Any other opinions on tents in that price range? Are there any RTT dealers in So. Cal that can cut me a break on shipping?

    Signed,
    Completely Overwhelmed

I can say the Summit vs. Pioneer series for CVT is worth it. You get a lot of nice features and a stronger tent. Spent a week out in Moab with fellow Alabamians and my tent was the sturdiest one out there. One fellow had a support bar bend in a wind storm we had (granted his is one of the 1st pioneer CVTs made). The fabric, ladder, structure, everything is just nicer, and worth the extra dough imo.

Keep your eyes open for used deals that pop up every once in awhile that's how I ended up with mine. Also hitting up anyone local to take a look at their tents in person will greatly help you wrap your brain around all the options...

Can that tent be deployed with the extension flipped up more like a standard 2 person tent?

I have not once regretted the Summit Series purchase when looking at other tents in the group. Bigger Straps, Heavier Materials, Stronger Floor, Reinforced corners, Integrated USB & Lights.

It opens like a book and needs the ladder to support 1/2 of the tent. The annex cover that goes over the doorway is attached to the tent and you have to attach a couple of bars to get it to stay put. Not really a way to deploy tent without using this part but I guess you could just let the fabric hang down over the door without deploying the bar. They make the same tent without this extra piece FYI.

What type of ratchet (or other tool) do you guys use for the bolts that hold your tent on? I have a prinsu rack and fitting my arms between the rack and roof is pretty tough.

I didn't go for the Rugged version due to the the weight as I did a Mt Rainier with annex. comes in around 165lbs without the annex room. The rugged versions are at least 200 lbs which exceeded my rack. The standard version is pretty beefy but I've not seen the rugged version of Tepui or CVT.

my CVT tent came with ratcheting wrenches that made that part easier.

On @rogs6266 rack, we attached it to the rear bar, marked placement on front bar, removed one bolt on each side of rear bar so it'll pivot, unbolted front bar, swung RTT up by pivoting it from rear bar, propped it up, bolted front bar to tent, lowered it and bolted front bar to prinsu sides, replaced bolts on rear bar and tightened everything up.

Sounds like a lot and very complicated after typing it all out but I assure you, it was very easy this way.

Just finished building a trailer for our RTT!

EDIT: Trailer and tent now for sale. $4,900 trailer, $800 tent (only for sale with trailer, otherwise we'll want to keep it). PM me if interested.

Ok thanks. It looked like maybe the hoops supporting the extension could be rotated up and hold the fabric out of the way of the entry.

Anyone have long-term experience with a rtt on an ARE CX (without reinforcements)? ARE stated the load capacity is 150 pounds so I might be out of luck...

That is what I use now. It is just a standard length one. I am wondering if a longer one would make it easier. Ideally I was wondering if their was like an electric (dont have air tools) ratchet or something that I didn't have to go back and forth with

That is actually a really good idea. I had to read it a few time but I think I understand, thanks!
