Yeah. I was used to it though. The way I adjusted my mirrors to see around the car drove my girlfriend nuts when she drove it. She's only ever driven trucks.

The first time she drove my Tacoma, she butchered shifting too. Used to the Camaros quirks.

I adjusted mine Sunday. The e-brake holds much better now. Still doesn't hold well on very steep hills though.

How exactly did you adjust it? Just tighten that nut to pull the line more taut?

There are two 12mm nuts tightened to each other. Just release the e-brake, loosen the nuts, turn the inner nut to tighten the slack in the cable, then tighten the outer nut against the inner nut.

Dang, that really is super easy. How did you know how tight to go? Or just trial and error.

I'm not sure if there's supposed to be any slack in the cable at all, so I tightened it till there was very little with the brake disengaged.

I think the Toyota Spec for tightness was by counting the number of clicks.

12-18 clicks on a 1st gen, not sure if it's the same for you guys. If I get to around 15 clicks the brake feels really loose and doesn't hold well.

I had the same number of clicks before and after, about 15.

Before I adjusted the cable, only the last several clicks had any real tension on them. After adjustment, same amount of clicks, but tension starts right away.

I had replaced the very worn shoes several months ago, didn't help the e-brake much at all.

Hello MT folks! This is my first Automatic Toyota truck and I've had many over the years. My last Tacoma, a 2006 TRD OR. AC was MT and to be honest, I thought it was weak. It was when pulling away with a heavy load, if I gave it lots of gas, the transmission would slip and I'd have to ride the clutch to accelerate. Of course it's possible the clutch needed replacing but it was only in that situation it would slip. Has anyone else have the same problem? My new truck with the 5 speed auto has no problem breaking traction with lots of tongue load. What are your thoughts on this?

For those that have trailers, how do you work with engine braking? The reason I ask is, I was going down a 8% hill in 2nd gear and reached around 45mph and 4k RPM without a trailer. Is this normal? It seemed unusually high from my 2nd gen tacoma I used to own.
    edit: 6 speed 2017

this topic is being discussed here and there in the Orange Virus ECU tune thread. there's no clear solution yet if this is what you're describing... it's related to ECU controlled fuel cutoff, and it's causing problems like this.

Anybody know how to reset the TPMS on our trucks? (3rd gen '16 OR) Our reset button is under the steering wheel and NOT in the glove compartment. I had one tire i put a spare on and now all four don't register.

The Spare does not have a Sensor in it.
