AndroidAuto and Apple CarPlay is vastly better than Entune. I've never seen such a shitty infotainment system. Both systems mirror your phone to the headunit, albeit with limited function but it's the best experience you can have in a system without actually touching your phone.

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay would be awesome. Google Maps on my Taco Nav screen, yes please.

I rated the Entune infotainment system zero star, on the Toyota new owner survey. I stated Android Auto or Apple CarPlay would have been a much better choice.

I'm actually a fan of entune. It's better than the MMI3G+ from my 13 Audi S5.

The best part, no monthly fees.

well i hope it comes sooner than later. lately entune has been sucking for a BT app passthru. i mean even the normal BT streaming function does better than entune.

I haven't used the android auto yet but apple carplay is very nice. I installed a kenwood carplay/android unit in my 09. The best thing about both is they are consistent across units and vehicles, so carplay in car 1 will look and work exactly like carplay in car 2.

The most useful thing for me has been carplay's ability to read your texts out loud and the integration with siri. You can speak texts to people or speak a name to dial.
I may be wrong but I think there's a hardware component to carplay/android units so you can't change a non-carplay unit to a carplay with software, so Toyota would have to completely redesign their headunits.

IMO it's definitely the way to go, that's why so many auto makers have already started doing it. If toyota keeps with entune they'll be losing out on parts of the market, especially the corolla/camry types who have a ton of other options.

The Stock Entune reads my Texts to me and there are a few instant replies on the screen you can respond with.

I use Siri by holding down the answer button on the steering wheel to make calls, send and receive text, and get directions through my phone, and you can even ask her to search google too. My biggest complaint it that when resuming music through Bluetooth after a restart it is in a super fast state where i have to disconnect / reconnect BT for normal speed

i could care less about the nav, i use a 7" garmin unit that is way better than any head unit nav. the follow me feature is great on the garmin, the wife and mom was able to follow me when i drove from ND to GA last thanksgiving to visit.

edit: and to boot, the garmin unit is not locked out when i am driving and i have free map updates for life of the unit.

still have a 5" unit that is about 4 years old that i update as needed for free. i let anyone borrow it that needs a gps unit to use instead of using your phone.

Entune and Enform (Lexus) are awful. But it's not the only one that sucks, the majority of car manufacturers have horrible infotainment systems. Tesla is the lone exception.

Every car manufacturer should have Carplay and Android Auto support.

Hyundai pushed an android auto update to our Genesis and at first it seems like a gimmick because it's doing all the same stuff, just with a different UI...but then google maps is infinitely better, the pandora integration is better, the google voice commands are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO *breathe* OOOOOOOOOOOO much better and everything just works better.

I would love to see it become available as a free update here in the same way.

this was supposed to be in response to the above.

Quoted the wrong post. I would rather have a standalone gps and normal sized radio any day, but manufacturers seem to think we need these big freaking screens in our rides.
