The mighty Tacoma is enduring dark days right now. Lots of work for Toyota to do to get back to where they once were.

statistics, statistics, statistics. The world does not revolve around Tacomaworld. 50% here is like 0.005% in the real world.

OP, 10K miles, zero problems. Buy what you want. I suggest you test drive and drive it again. I also suggest that you examine the vehicle you want to buy since obviously you care if there is a speck or blemish. With that said, no vehicle is perfect.

Where would that be exactly? Been driving them for 30+ years now (5th truck) and this one seems to be the best of the bunch after 20 months and 22k miles.

    No issues approaching 17k miles.
Mine was built in November 2016 from the Texas plant.
My differential isn't leaking, my differential isn't howling, everything is aligned correctly, no CPS failures, and the automatic transmission doesn't bother me.
I guess I got lucky with mine as I don't have any buyers remorse and this truck is going to be with me for a long time.
Seems 2017 buyers with a build date after May 2017 aren't having any quality issues. The ones who are complaining don't like the auto trans which after the TSB update doesn't bother me.
Love my 2017 TRD off road.:bananadance:

...and you know that how? Oh, TacomaWorld posters said so?:rolleyes: This forum is good for a lot of things... mods, tires, helping others, etc. This forum is TERRIBLE when it comes to actual problems and who really has them. You own a 2nd gen right?

2017, 18k total (3k pretty hard offroad miles). I've beat the shit out of mine, got air, forged 30" of water, danced around in mud all day, hit whoops at 40mph (that was a mistake), was doing laps around blowsand hill in anza Borrego in 100+ degree weather etc.... zero issues.

I also work for a dealer group that owns a Toyota store (worked for Toyota when the 3rd gen came out actually). There are some issues on the 3rd gen we handn't really seen before: had to replace the T-case on a 2016 with only 1k miles on it, the rear diff issue, and one other one needed a new ECU before it even left the lot. But nothing repetitive so they all seemed like farily isolated incidents.

People also don't realize we have problems ALL THE TIME with random QUALITY vehicles. The RAV4 is insanely reliable and just a few months ago a brand new one grenade a transmission while on a test drive, hadn't even been purchased yet. In the last week alone I've replaced 2 batteries on brand new Honda Accords, had a Civic with a bad ground, a Ridgeline with paint defects, and a 2017 Odyssey had its entire infotainment system replaced. These were all brand new vehicles. But ask anyone if Honda is reliable and you'll get a resounding "YES". The thing is when stuff happens to these common cars no one goes to the forums to bitch as much, there isn't a hardcore community of RAV4 enthusiasts ranting to each other online, so you never really hear when a RAV4 encounters problems but when it happens on an enthusiast vehicle like the Tacoma or FRS you'll almost certainly hear about it from someone.

Its kind of like the phenomenon with the 24hr news cycle, ask anyone over 40 if the world is more or less dangerous now than it was 20-30 years ago and most of them will confidently tell you the world is much more dangerous these days, I mean just look at the news!! When in REALITY the world is actually much safer, there's less poverty, less starvation, less crime, less violent deaths, more education, etc etc etc. By every measure the world is a better place than it was in the 80s, but if you watch the news you would never know that. Like if you only read TW you'd never know the 3rd gen is an awesome truck ;)

Does every 2nd gen owner bash the 2016+ Tacoma on here? Good grief!
I am going to test drive a 2015 Tacoma to see what is so special about this beloved 2nd gen tacomas.
It's not like the 2nd gens didn't have a initial quality issues either.

Good thing TW wasn't around in the 80's and 90's when there were many small trucks to choose from. My guess is Toyota wouldn't have the reputation it enjoys today.

They were good trucks compared to the rest but they were underpowered, very few amenities and certainly not perfect.

Consumer reports have been saying this since the 3rd gen tacomas were released.
All the negative things they are saying about the 2016+ Tacoma's, they also said the same thing about the Nissan Frontier.
We should all be buying Honda ridgelines if we listen to consumer reports.

Did they say these things about the 2nd gen ? If not how do you explain the big conspiracy now. Based on these threads and my personal experience with my 2017 now sold Tacoma. consumer reports is dead on accurate. I had nothing but problems with my 17 and could not wait to get rid of it.

You just had a bad experience.
Stiff ride and poor seating position were the same issues the 2nd gen's had and why would anyone buy a truck for ride comfort. I'm sure there were several 2005-2015 lemon tacomas that left a bad taste in those owners mouth about Toyota's quality.
It shows these buyers bought the wrong vehicle in the first place. You could have tell if you didn't like the seating position when you sat in the truck. I'm 6'0 tall and 176 pounds and I fit fine in my truck and the seat is far more comfortable than my Scion tC I use to own. Initial quality issues happen on mass produced vehicles that sell nearly 200,000 units a year.
Sorry you had a bad experience with your truck and hope you enjoy your new vehicle.

When the 2nd gen rolled out it was the same shitshow on the Toyota forums as it is now with the 3rd gen. The "big new Tacoma" was considered more T100 than Tundra.

Nothing new here other than Consumer Reports had the H2 and H3 to flog for worst performer then.

The 2nd gen was no big milestone as some here like to believe.

10.9k miles on mine and no issues. My tranny hunts gears and the stealership won't upload the software fix without a code, so I'm going to corporate to open a case. Totally love the truck, no issues. This is my 10th Toyota pickup over the years, and its by far the best in terms of build quality, options, and comfort.

I have the Howling Rear Diff and it is also seeping, and the HPFP also chirps sometimes but otherwise truck feels good, solid, and pretty comfortable.

I'm not providing any data or anything.. nobody here has any.

all I'm saying is this, and i said it in my first post:

it seems, from watching TW most days, that the majority of complaints appear to come from '16 owners, and somewhat less from '17 owners. it's my impression, so don't argue with it. it's an impression. call it a butt dyno thing, whatever.

Two issues from the factory. Both were promptly and capably fixed at Titus Will in Tacoma, WA. Pretty significant paint defect and common bumper misalignment
