If you could do it again what trim would you purchase?

i want one, but i also want the modular mounting options of a bed rack.
So going to look into getting a custom canvas cover made to attach to the bed rack.

 

I bought mine second hand... but none of those packages were avail when i looked at the 2017s here...

 

I am very happy with my truck, love the way it handles and it can go off road as well. That being said, the sport is overpriced when compared to the off road. What I notice about lots of the off roads, is how quickly folks change out the suspension and shit.

So, the question is, do you off road in extreme enough places to get the locker? Or do you drive on roads a lot and like a ride that holds the corners and looks sharp doing it?

 

I like my Sport. Didn't see a need for the locker for my use, and they had the LB in white. I just prefer the long bed; always have. It's a preference. I know the guys that trail a lot like short beds. But my weekends aren't what they were 20 years ago anyway. Glamis/CR250/Banshee - out. Costco/Home Depot/Forest Service Roads - in.

I see far more OR's than Sports on the road. I'd assume they build more of them because I can't see that many people choosing the locker option out of necessity. You can't go wrong either way. I've heard the OR's are a softer ride, but I don't think the Sports ride bad at all. Just don't expect a big $8K GM-style rebate... those don't exist in this realm.

 

When i priced it the OR was the same price as the sport...

 

All depends on what you use it for... if you plan to do some offroading (or even unmaintained "on roading" such as forest / fire roads / mud) I'd want the OR 4x4 for the locker, crawl, etc., you get a lot more (in my opinion) for the same money with the OR. With the sport you get sightly better cornering with street-tuned suspension and a more road-mannered truck but lose some of the features that would make it more utilitarian when you need the features. Sport is a great truck but the TRD features are more aesthetic than anything else (hood scoop, color matched flares, etc.,) whereas you get more useful things for times you plan to go off pavement with the OR.

I also personally far prefer the OR suspension in general vs. the harsher feel of the Sport.

I like the ride on mine, very floaty feeling. If I were to do it again it would be down to a Pro or a OR - but in my case I knew I'd be spending several thousand on mods to customize to my outdoor needs (kayaks, bikes, camping, etc.,) so decided to put the extra Pro money toward things I needed and have a more custom look.

Never regret the silver though - doesn't ever look dirty, scratches aren't noticeable, and it looks awesome the more black accessories you bolt onto it such as cab racks, rolling tonneau, steps, etc.,

 

2017 4Runner Limited...........from my troubled 2016 TRD Sport

 

Add the bed mat with that pro grille and you're good to go! I got a white pro (15) which is exactly what I wanted, but if I had to do it all over again I would have got the manual trans and the super charger.

 

super white trd pro 4 runner would be my decision.

 

I ended up getting a trd offroad premium w/ jbl but if i had to do it again i would of gotten a Base TRD Offroad...i got a roof rack and using the sunroof is pointless now (too noisy). The blind spot monitoring sensors in the rear bumper will become pointless once i get a high clearance rear bumper. I also wished I would of gotten a manual transmission as this automatic transmission is horrible when it comes to interstate driving. I also hate the factory tonneau cover and would of gone the aftermarket route.

 

I will back in time & purchase my 1999 Prerunner again...

 

They are priced exactly the same which imho makes the OR a better value because of the extra equipment.

 

It's different. Tech is only offered on sport. Maybe for 2018 we'll see more options.

 

This may sound silly but I would have purchased a TRD sport over my TRD off-road because I have yet to use crawl control, MTS, or the rear lock differential.
I like the aesthetics and looks of the TRD sport and the fake hood scoop actually looks really cool.
The most popular trims here on TW are the TRD OR and TRD pros because of all the off road gadets I have yet to use.

 

I was gonna buy a or but ended up getting a better deal on sport , but I agree if you can get a or for same price as sport go with or more factory options

 

Crawl control is whatever but that MTS actually works great for rock.
I too am yet to use locker but eventually will need it

 

I like the idea of the OR, but reality is my truck is more for hauling kids and plywood then going off road.. and even if I did, im not going into a bog with a 40k truck. At least not while the wifes watching..

 

Manuel transmission, 6ft. bed and V6. Only one choice. Unless you are north of the border.

 

I agree sport looks better , but it's just nice to have those off road features even if you don't use them, much cheaper go buy sport hood and get that and flares painted than put those options into a sport .. personal sport should come with lock diff and crawl I feel that's the biggest ball Toyota dropped when they made this 3rd gen

 

Cant get v6 in manual with 6ft bed here...
