    You're starting to hear wear at 19K?? That seems pretty low unless you are really hard on the brakes.

    I got 100K out of my 2nd gen fronts. More on the rears.

    I'd dare say the truck has been parked for long periods of time. Thus rust on rotors has not been cleaned off with regular use, and has built up, now the outter part of the pad has worn, leaving rust on the outter part of the disc.

    I was thinking this as well. We have a Mini that has that roughness on the outer 1/4"-1/2" or so and no matter how hard I am on it, it doesn't go away. Brakes have pads and all seems well considering.

    I feel like the roughness builds and likely takes pad material with it as you brake so it never evens back out.

    His rotors look kinda weird, something does not look right. I store my car for the Winter and I get surface or flash rust on the rotor but the first Drive down the street in the Spring cleans them right up.

    Yes. I think it's the wear tabs I hear. When I hit bumps I can hear the high pitched tinney squeal they make. My Shell is around 200lbs and I drive in stop and go traffic 20miles to work each day. We go to the mountains a few times each summer and snowboard about ten times over the winter and the Bay Area had lots of hills all over. But I agree. 20K is too soon for pads. Some days it's quiet. Other days its annoying.

    Off topic, but not really..... I get so pissed when I think of the rear drums on this truck, and Sweers saying one of the advantages is ease of service. F YOUUUUUUU, ease of service! I can replace pads and rotors with my eyes closed, last time I had to do drums was the parking brake on my 97 ZJ (located inside the rotor hat). Over three hours of cursing and throwing tools, and the parking brake STILL barely worked! All of the goddamn springs, pins, and other garbage in there (I'm talking to you, Mr. Rusty Star adjuster!), plus wheel cylinders to eventually leak. EFFFFFFFFF THAAAAAAAAT!

    On the flip side, I changed front pads and rotors (both sides) in the street in front of my apartment with hand tools in 45 min.

    I have to agree. changing pads, or rotors and pads, is a breeze with discs

    Padz iz fat yo!

    Srsly front pads were quite thick. Maybe 6-8mm guessing. Rear shoes were thinner 3-4mm. I didn't see any metal wear indicators though so the sound must be something else.

    metal wear indicators (with stock pads in stock position) are close to hub and on the inboard pad
    so ....hard to see when installed

    Went to the dealer this morning and this is what I was told. "Found rotors rusty from sitting. This is an environmental condition, not a defect." How do they know how much it was sitting? My truck rarely sits more than a few days. And why don't the 2014 vehicles I saw on the Toyota lot (over a dozen) have the same problem I do?. Or all of the cars and trucks in my neighborhood? The manager said he isn't going to risk replacing the rotors and brakes, because Toyota won't cover the cost and he will have to pay out of his pocket. In there someplace he said, "and you didn't even buy the truck from us". Like that should matter.

    As for my rattling/chirping noise from engine, the dealership said,"Noise is normal operating condition and is a design characteristic of the vehicle"

    Call over their heads. I still think its a driving issue, but they are just so new that it doesn't seem totally right...especially since you have a warranty!

    So can we assume there are pads in there!?

    Well time to pull off your wheels and inspect the pads yourself, as something isn't right.

    Do you by chance have another dealer nearby you can use?
