What are the most important differences between the SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road and the Limited

I have been searching for a more watered down answer as to which one makes the most sense to purchase.

Honestly I don't probably be fine with a 4x4 4 cylinder as all I do is throw my dirt bike in the bed and/or my kayaks.

But I live in Ohio so I "figured" having a TRD off-road 4x4 was the ideal pick since I am a sucker for the crawl control feature.

But I'm starting to second guess myself as the sr5 may suit my needs and would leave me some cash left over to throw on some wheels, running boards and get rid of that grill.

What did you guys do?

I bought a base SR in March with the painted bumpers and rear slider. Im fine with the 4 banger.
Also live in Ohio (Kent). Figured I saved at least $4000 going cheap and then upgrading. With the exception of tires and wheels everything on my truck came from Tacoma World members.

 

Solid pick up. That's my thought as well

I'm against most things chrome, but those wheels with that red is the perfect classic look. So good!

 

don't buy an off road if you are putting on running boards, that is like buying a GT3 and putting skinny snow tires on it for race weekend. there are very large differences in capability between the trucks at limit (more serious off road) Put it this way, first of all if you were serious about off roading you would want the off road for the locker, not the CC, so I get that it is probably just more for fun, don't buy an "off road" just for that. If you NEEDED a locker due to how you plan to use this, then you buy the offroad. The sport is just a prettied up rig but not for real off roading. Save your money and buy an SR5.

 

Agreed. Just goes to show you that it's simply a matter of tasteful consideration and execution. Looks perfect to me.

 

I saw your truck in the Barcelona Red thread a couple days ago, and I have to say it's beautiful. Glad to see that someone else agrees that the chrome grill and badges ect actually flows pretty well on a BRM truck.

As for what model to get one thing I would seriously consider is how often you purchase new vehicles. I just bought my truck in July and sold my Scion TC that I had for 10 years, and I plan on keeping this truck (if all goes well) for at least just as long.

Given that I hold on to vehicles for a long time gave me a little more power in my mind to justify spending a bit more and get the truck that I really wanted. I didn't want to get in everyday and wish I had paid a little extra for crawl control or those blind spot monitors ect. even if I don't use them all the time. I guess that's a bit of a personality thing but it's what went through my head. To me the mods can wait a few months or even a year or two if it means I'll be happier with my purchase in the meantime.

Granted this is all barring what is financially sensible/feasible in your situation, don't over extend yourself with payments to get stuff you don't want or need. Enjoy and appreciate what you have, even if it's not everything you always wanted.
