Show us your truck bed sleeping platform/drawer/storage systems

Nice to see you were able to salvage your old platform! I tried to do the same, but no luck.

 

I actually gave my old platform to another TW member. But I had pieces of plywood left over that I was able to use for this. The only material I had to buy were the 2x6's, 2x10, and more carpet.

 

Very nice! I'm giving my old one to another member as well. All I needed was two 2x12x16' and two sheets of 1/2" plywood, but even that came out to $110. Those 2x12's weren't cheap! I'm happy with it though and it'll hopefully last a long time. On an unrelated note, is that a solar panel controller I see in the background?

 

It sure is. I have a Renogy 100w solar panel mounted to the OEM cab roof rack. It feeds through the drain hole in the front of the bed to the controller. Then out from the controller, through the other drain hole, and up to the battery (single battery setup). Then I have power run to a panel build by Off-Grid Engineering located at the cubby in front of the factory inverter. The SnoMaster fridge is plugged into that and run 24/7.

 

That's pretty neat. The guy I bought my Prinsu from had the same panel tending his battery since his winch and fridge were taking it's toll. I may have to get one too eventually!

I like what you did notching out the 2x10 center support to accept your cross slat. Looks great!

 

Thanks! It was practically the only option I have, unless I simply attach a foot to that cross slat. Since the center support is the same height, it adds to the rigidity to the platform. Keeping it simple.

 

Yeah this is what I did, I just added a foot there, but I much prefer the way you did it

 

Not secured just notched 2x10 and the landings hold the 2x6. The weight from the plywood holds everything together. I like it because I can always remove everything if I need the room.

 

I had planned on some turnbuckles when I was planning the platform, but after throwing it in for a test fit I didn't bother. My wood deck is VERY tight when I installed the carpet. Takes some real effort to lift the 2 1/2's apart.
I have climbed into the bed many times and it stays rock solid as I climb on it. No shifts no tipping. Several months of driving has not had any rattles or anything. So basically make it as precise and tight fitting as possible.

 

It also helps to keep the ply more rigid the entire length of the bed. It now can't sag under the center edge since there is no support there.
I made my platform out of 3/4" square tube. I notched my center support just like you did.

 

Here is my quick setup I made. I basically copied another members setup I saw in the forums. I have to finish the stash boxes along the sides. The top is 3/4" plywood and the vertical pieces are 1/2" ply to fit in the grooves of the factory bed liner. I also plan on staining it soon.

 

I like the quick removal of the center section for a tall load.
