    Hello everyone,
Been reading up on the 3rd gen Tacoma here for a while now. I've made the decision to trade in my truck for a new/newer Tacoma. Haven't decided which trim I want to buy (sport or offroad) but I'm set on the Tacoma. Prefer the automatic but from what I can tell from driving and reading on here is that they don't shift the best. Any suggestions or advice is welcome. Thanks!

Test drive as many miles as you can. Preferably if you could test the truck "over night". Test it with merging into traffic and hauling weight, also test on a level and hilly road to see how the shifting etc feels to you personally.

@smitty99 RIP, would recommend you do as much testing of the truck in your normal routine and what you intend to use it for.

    Welcome aboard!!!

OR vs Sport: There are several pros and cons to each. Personally, I would have loved to get the Off Road because of all of the "goodies" than came with it (locking diff, ATRAC, cushier ride). However, you can't get a double cab long bed with the Off Road package, so I went with the Sport (and I like my hood scoop, 17" wheels, and color-matched everything). Really figure out what you would use it for and what you like.

Regard the 3rd Gens: I can't really speak too much about them, but what @Toyko Joe and @smitty99 have said, test drive them as much as you can (which really applies to any vehicle you plan on buying). Also, I believe that Toyota has fixed most of the shifting issue in the automatics.

    Just my 2 cents.
