Maybe disconect a line by the fuel filter and turn ignition on that should turn the fuel pump on

Will be easier if that is v6

Sorry to hear about the truck

Sorry to hear about your Tacoma. But, glad no one was hurt.

I would be interested in the cap, if you can provide pictures.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
Ouch, but good thats all it was, no lives hurt. I'm up just north west of Tampa. Had quite a blow. The truck sleeps at night in the garage. My property's a mess, alot of tree an electric gone, but all good. Good luck with insurance.

Well, I'm not getting much help to get the cap off...and I don't really have the storage space or mental energy to spend on it, so I'm going to have to let the truck go as is. If I get any information as to where it goes, I'll post here...

I am truly sorry for the loss of your truck, and the overwhelming feeling. But again, I would suggest you at least explore the option of accepting a slightly less settlement, with the right to keep the truck. You might be surprised at how little difference there is in the settlement*, and if you give a few more details as to the truck, you might find a member on here that would be willing to take the whole vehicle in one purchase. If you can give us a few more details you might entice us even more, i.e. mileage, optional equipment, any aftermarket parts you have added, etc, etc. Also, when negotiating with the insurance adjuster, if you can provide receipts for add-ons, they may consider those for reimbursement. Hell, if I were closer, I would at least consider purchasing. I need the rear springs and shocks, the passenger doors, and the box. Plus you have a frame that could go to some poor rust belt soul. (I just got a replacement, but there are a lot of people not so lucky) Plus the limited interior would be a nice upgrade. So you can see the mindset of perhaps others on here as well.

*I speak from experience regarding the salvage value that the insurance companies use. I lost a runabout boat to a fire at my marina, just burned the interior, and no damage to the I/O motor and lower unit, and I got that salvage for $300, and that unit was probably worth $4,500 at that time.

First off, I'm from FL, so I know how things work. This truck was parked in your driveway, so your home-owners/renters insurance should take care of it. Also, you can "replace" a bunch of parts from your truck. Basically you could sell good parts of it, and replace them with the junky parts of said buyers. Lastly, if it's a 4WD, buy it back, get a "Pre-Runner", even with the 2.7 engine, and swap the drivetrain!

Good luck, glad to hear y'all are o.k.!

As someone who works in the Salvage Dept for a major insurance company I can let you know my company uses CCC1 reports for valuation. Assuming you have a clear title for the truck (no lien holder/finance company) you can pursue the option of retaining it. To retain the settlement amount would be decreased by the retention/salvage bid (minimum amount calculated the insurance company thinks can get for the vehicle at the salvage yard). However, FL has strict requirements about retaining a vehicle that's been declared a total loss IIRC. If I think about it I can look into the state requirements tomorrow and try to let you know if you wanted

They will have an adjustor come out and take a look at your vehicle to determine the amount of damage. He will underestimate the damage as much as he possibly can, and he's usually an idiot (he underestimated mine by more than half and missed the fact that the FRAME WAS FUCKING BROKEN). Then they will tell you they estimate your repairs at x dollar value or that your vehicle is totaled. If your vehicle is totaled, what they usually do is use a third party database to find vehicles similar to yours sold in the area where you live. They'll take the lowest 3 sale prices they can find and offer you the average. It won't be anything close to what you would actually sell the vehicle for on CL, or what you could actually buy a carbon copy replacement for.

At least, that's how it was described to me when my subaru got totaled.

If your insurance covers a vehicle rental while yours is destroyed, don't get a rental if you can help it. Whenever you settle, tell them you will take a Loss of Use payment at the SUV rental rate for the entire duration of the time you were without a vehicle. That should net you close to $1k extra as a payout.

Oh, and they usually don't give a damn about any aftermarket upgrades you have on the vehicle and won't take those into account. If you think that suspension pack is still good, I'd take it off for resale before they come and take your truck away.

Damn sorry to hear about your truck. Had a buddy who was in the British Virgin Islands during the storms and some of his pics were insane. At least only material things were damaged. They can always be replaced.

Okay all, just wanted to update. The whole situation has been quite overwhelming with the truck being totaled, cleaning up debris, taking down shutters, working, etc. They had so many claims at USAA, my insurer, that they were sending a huge team of adjusters down specifically for hurricane Irma losses. They were taking vehicles to a facility in West Palm Beach to do the inspections so that they could do many at one time. I got the call yesterday that the truck is indeed a total loss. Because of everything else I have on my plate, I am not going to do the "buy back." But, since it is going to end up at an automobile salvage facility, I will let you all know where it is once all is said and done. I'm sure they'll have the parts available shortly after this process is over with.
