Also, with 4wd you will have to pay attention to the CV joints and anthing more than 3" usually results in the boot rubbing. Since I'm 2wd I don't have to worry about CV joints but my ball joints are extremely close to the coil and will hit on suspension droop. Not to mention the ride quality suffers with that little down travel.

Your old suspension must've been sagging bad, the stock measurements for most tacomas is 21" hub to fender
Still hard to believe 3.5" from 885s though. 887s gave me 3.5-4" so I switched to the 885s and now I'm sitting right at 3

Now the springs right out of the gate will always provide more lift then what is expected and they will settle down over time. 4.5" if unheard-of. I would definitely think that it is worn springs just like @EatSleepTacos pointed out. I do see this very often especially with the rear springs. The new springs, whether coil spring or leaf spring, provide "x" amount of lift over stock. Stock is based on the trucks spec's when they were brand new. So if the factory springs have worn in over time they can provide a negative amount of support thus the new springs bring the truck back to stock and provide the lift that they were supposed to. I would guarantee the assembly is correct but if you want me to confirm that everything is installed as it should be you can post up some pictures or PM me and I can verify.

    Also...
The 885's will provide around 2.5" of lift on a stock weight 05-15 4dr 4wd V6. Since you have a 2wd you will see around 1/2" more lift from them. if you have an 4cy that will also make the coils provide more lift.

If I can ever get home from work at a decent time I would take the time to look at this closer. I have already loosened all the control arm bolts to make sure that there wasn't any binding going on. I may need to move the UCA ball joints to the D setting to gain a little more clearance at the coil spring. I was hoping to use the E setting for increased space behind the tire but I would rather deal with the tire rubbing than the ball joint hitting the spring.

Thanks! They're 16x8 with 0 offset/4" backspacing. They stick out 2" over stock and those are 285s on there.

Planning on ordering the 5100's with 885's tomorrow. Did you all order the Carrier Bearing Drop Kit?

Eh, doesn't really matter either way. The difference is negligible. You won't hurt anything by rubbing it.

What is the biggest tire I can run with 5100/885/LR UCA? I really want to stay out of CMC or pinch weld hammering territory. I don't really want to trim anything. 07 dclb trd sport 17"rim. Anybody running 265/70/17 with this setup? Can I see pictures? I'm worried that they would look small with 2.5" lift. Awesome thread!!!

I have pics of this exact set-up, minus the UCA. Not horribly small, but when I made the jump to 285s I was a lot happier.

Great looking truck dude! Those are 31.6" tires rigtht? I believe you mentioned in a different thread that you had to do all kinds of trimming including CMC to fit your 285' correct? Do you think you could have gotten away without trimming if you went with LR UCA and played with the adjustable caster little bit? I saw a utube vid of a guy doing it but not sure if it worked for off-roading,he was just turning his wheels on a parking lot.

Yeah! I did the CMC and hammered the pinch weld before I even mounted them, because I didn't want to mess up my new tires. I may have gotten away without it, but I'll never know for sure. As far as playing with caster, maybe. If you decide to go that route, just be prepared that a CMC MAY be a possibility. Have you ever considered 255/580r17? That's what I'm running and love it.

If you run them with stock wheels, then nope! I have them on my truck right now, and just trimmed a tiny bit of plastic.

You can also look at my avatar for a good idea.

Hell yeah, glad I can help! Another perk I forgot to mention is that 255s are way cheaper. Mine were $185 shipped whereas the 285 variation is like $80 more per tire. Downside is small selection.

Looks like they don't make Duratracs in that size and I really want Duratracs since I drive on the snow about 7 months a year. I did find 255/75/17 Duratracs for $138 a piece so we might have a winner!
