    And my answer was:

"Get good insurance with a low deductible. Beyond that nothing will stop a determined thief."

Which is an absolute truth. Believe it or don't.

If I was truly worried about someone stealing my vehicles, I would install one of the mechanical brake line check valve locks. It's a block that you plumb into a brake line. When you turn the key lock on the block, it makes it a check valve. The 1st time they step on the brakes, they don't release. Also, as mentioned above, hidden fuel pump switch. So, if they can get past the alarm system, the imobilizer, the hidden fuel pump switch, and the brake lock, that would take some serious talent.

The chance of a vehicle being stolen by a flatbed or tow truck is very, very slim. I'm sure the people that are doing that, are going after much more exotic vehicles than a Tacoma.

The chance is much more likely that someone will break into your house, grab the keys off the hook by the door, open the garage and drive away. Most people have multiple vehicles and are bound to leave at least 1 of them at home.

It's a lot more common than you would think. Usually stolen with a stolen tow truck

With the prevalence of chipped keys etc, it's easier and cheaper to steal a tow truck and then swipe vehicles for a chop shop than to try and start it with a screwdriver or hotwire it

Stolen vehicles come in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes it's to commit a crime, sometimes it's because a shady mechanic with a chop shop needs a particular part from a particular make/model of vehicle, sometimes they're to sell out of the country

It's actually much more reliable to target and steal cars/trucks that a lot of people have. (I.e. Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, F150, etc.) as opposed to stealing very expensive/rare/exotic cars.

Not in the area where I live. The worst that has happened around here, with a tow truck, was someone stole a tow truck, winched the doors off a grocery store, then wrapped a chain around the safe in the back office and were attempting to winch it out of the store. The safe tipped over and got hung up. The gave up and left.

No doubt. I once went to a dealership to test drive a car and the sales person did not how to drive it. He even had me back it out of a tightly squeezed spot.

with me, first they have to get through the gate, which in itself isn't so hard but then they would have to deal with the mean ass Akita with an attitude.

Not sure what year you have, in 2014 there is a chipped key that is paired with an engine immobilizer system that doesn't allow the engine to start without a registered key in the vicinity. Like has been said, not much will stop a flatbed.
