and this would make for a good relatively cheap 6 point set.

1/2 drive can always be added on later but in general for basic maintenance stuff you'd be doing isn't needed. The only time I've ever really used 1/4 drive is when I couldn't find the size socket in 3/8.

 

i would buy a quality ratchet.... if you break a socket fine.. i can deal with that, but a broken ratchet.. ugh. the worst. after going through a handful of cheap shitty ones, i've had my current one for 20+ years. yes.. i'm old. deal with it never buy a ratchet that has a plastic switch

 

for the record... i'm not saying the one is above is bad, i'm just saying..make sure you get a good one

So, the guy at NAPA (who remembers me AND Jackson) was saying that I don't need to get a fumoto valve, that pulling the plug is just as easy.... thoughts? Comments?

 

Pulling the plug isn't hard, but the fumoto valve is even easier. If you ever get some skid plates down the line, the fumoto is a must as it makes changing oil a lot less messy. I have a fumoto on my subaru and it was so easy, I'm getting one for all my vehicles.

 

I have a skidplate, albeit bent to shit, but in the market for a new one by next warm season. I thought I'd have to take the plate off to change the oil, regardless?

 

Love my Fumoto valve. Anyone who doesn't have one just doesn't get it. I wish I had gotten the short nipple version. I have the no nipple version. No skid plate removal needed. It makes oil changes so easy that I've done them in some weird places on a whim.

 

Which skidplate? The stock one is garbage, and doesn't need to be removed. I have @Mobtown Offroad skids, and there's a nice hole to drain the oil through so you don't have to drop it. This is nice, because their skid is like 80 pounds. Here's a picture of their skid with the oil drain plug access hole. After that is a picture of the stock "skid plate"

Ah ok. I understand now. So the fumoto has like an off/off? The NAPA guy explained it as me needing to hold the valve open til all the oil was drained.

 

No. Flip it and let it drain.

 

Nope! Not the case at all. When you go to change your oil, you just flip it open, and walk away for like 20 minutes and let it all drain out. That's it!

 

The nipples versions let you use a piece of tube so you don't get any oil on your hand. Without the nip, I get a couple drops on me.

 

That's what I've got on my subie. I have the short nipple version, and it's nice.

 

I was wondering which version to get. Why not the longer nipple version, then?
