I have a 2015 Tacoma and I'm going to be having the front bumper touched up, so I thought it would be a good time to fill the holes and look for a no hole license plate option.
I also have a 2007 4Runner and I noticed that the lower grill is very similar to the Tacoma except that the 4Runner grill already has the license plate mounts built into it.
Before I found your brackets I was considering making something based on the 4Runner design, I even thought about buying a used 4Runner grill just to cut those mounts off and experiment with them.

Question: Have you been down this road before, does this look like it might work or a complete waste of time ?

 

I've seen many 4runners with this mount. our Tacoma Slybrackets will not work although it looks like it would. If you need a different mounting for the 4runner our BOZZmount HG will work. you don't gave to do anything with the old mount. it will be hidden when the new mount is installed with the license plate on.

I don't need a mount for the 4Runner. When I bought my 2015 Tacoma a few months ago (before I knew there was a bracket available),
I was thinking about making a mount myself - since I have a 4Runner I was thinking about making the mount for my truck based on the 4Runner design.
Of course it would have to be modified. Since you have experience, I was wondering if you thought this might work, with some modification ?

 

I really appreciate you asking me this question. But you're asking someone who actually makes and sells brackets for your vehicle and many other vehicles for a living. Having said that. Yes you can probably make one for your truck based on the 4runnner grille. Not something I personally will try to figure out again because I already have. 2012-2015 Toyota Tacoma SlyBrackets. But just keep at it. Don't give up.

 

I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel here, just something I thought about before I found out that someone already makes them..

Will this work for a 2012 Tacoma?

 

I bought the original bracket back in 2014.

Some SOB stole it along with my front license plate today! The front bumper is completely unmarked so they took their sweet time taking it apart, too. I don't get it....why take the front plate when the rear plate has the registration sticker on it? Ugh.

I just ordered a new one. Now I have to waste a day at the DMV getting new plates...
