Icon UCA replacement

Try spraying them with a dry lube. I carry a can with me and spray them when it gets loud, works for about a day.

 

Still haven't found a solid answer for this but to be honest I'm not digging very hard for it. Just planning ahead for the day I have to replace my uni balls.

Installed my new Delta Joints yesterday. Haven't driven the truck yet though. They appear to be very nice. The sealed top portion I'm sure will help.

 

Very nice. My brother ordered some up but have not installed yet.

 

well...1200 miles and still butter. no binding, no squeaks, no noises. so far so good.

 

How did you get the old uniballs out?? And how did you get the delta joints in?

 

I got SPC as well. I love how you can index the ball joint and service separately from the UCA. Definitely under your $500 budget.

 

there is a retaining clip on the bottom of the joint...remove the clip...press old uni-ball joint out and press the new delta joint in. reinstall the new retaining clip.

 

I could have done it but I'd have needed the tool they sell (or something similar) to do it. And I don't own a press. I ended up taking the UCAs to a local shop and had them pressed out/in. Less money than buying a press I don't have room for in the garage.

 

I know "how" to replace them, just wondering if there were any special tricks. I pulled one of the UCA's off and removed the clip and attempted pressing the uniball out with the press tool rented from Autozone. I had zero luck. The uniball must be seized in there. This was a while ago. Maybe I will just take them off and bring them to a shop.

 

You need a hydraulic press. Cheap from harbor freight.

 

my apoligies. i soaked mine in penatrating fluid for a couple of hours before attempting to remove them....they came out nice and
easy. if that doesnt work for you than like stated above, you'll need a hydraulic press.

 

Cheap, and also quite dangerous (regardless of quality). If you don't feel comfortable using the press I'd advise you to pay a local shop to do it. For me, it was $100 to have them pressed and although I'd have liked to have saved the money they did it quickly and it saved me time.

 

I have 25K on SPC arms with no issues.

 

They are dangerous if you dont know what your doing. Little research and taking safety in concern goes a long way.

 

Yep. Hell, they are dangerous even if you DO know what you're doing. That much force need extra attention to detail getting things lined up!

 

Just replace my Icon uniballs with the Deltas, uniballs didn't last long at all in Canada. Tires all over the road, squeaky as all hell. What a difference the deltas made, obviously cause new, but we'll see how they last - quality looking build on them. Db

 

I think it may be time for me to go this route or get new UCA.

I put graphite on my balls, made a cover out of pond liner. Thanks to DTOY@ This way the uni ball is not exposed to mud, sand etc. Just zip tie in place. When the noice occurs again just lift flap and add graphite.
