Riiiggghhtt. These also cost way more then $100 bucks and entail paying a monthly fee, seems like overkill for our trucks.

    Stuff... Need more stuff
    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

The last guy in the video is awesome..

Remember... If a thief really wants your car, he's going to take it..

The best thing you can do is impede the theives progress... A boot on the wheel will do that..

If I was going to steal a car and it had a boot on it, I would probably just go to the next easier target..

Also, I was thinking, I sure dont know what the thieves value the most but it seems like the Tacoma would be lower on the value list since there are so many of them. I would think that in general, the more determined thief would be more interested in the high value targets. Again, that subject is completely out of my realm.

You would think that, but, I think i read that the Civic is one of the most stolen cars out there....and they are everywhere

The opposite is actually true, Civics and Camrys are stolen because they are very popular and their parts are easy to sell to body shops and for repairs. Also a lot of old Toyota pickups end up south of the border.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but the engine immobilizer isn't a particularly difficult thing to disable, they can have a computer and Techstream to do that.

I was thinking that too. One that shuts the engine off is well over $100. You can buy good trackers for around a $100 though. Yes they have a yearly fee but it's nothing crazy.

Think about it though. A lot of people here have $2500 in coilovers alone. Plus RTTs, bumpers, Nav equipment, stereos, etc. The $100 or so spent on such a thing is well worth it.

There's really nothing out there that can stop a knowledgeable determined thief. We have LoJack in all of our newer cars that has a feature where if the car is moved without having the keyfob, it immediately alerts LoJack.

From what I've seen, cars are usually more likely broken into than actually taken but I've also seen where some new vehicles with push to start can also be remotely started with a hacked device. For a Tacoma though, my best guess is that a tow would be the preferred method as it can be done in seconds.

a hidden switch inline with the fuel pump power can only be defeated if you can find it. no computer or techstream can do jack about it

Most of the time, a hidden switch would most likely be accessible from the driver's seat.

In my old truck I had a couple of different tricks to prevent theft. It pre-dated any of the modern crap, so the steering wheel was removable (no air bag). So that was a pretty obvious deterrent. It had electrical tricks that were obvious if you knew to look that I have implemented on my Tacoma. I just wish it didn't have an air bag otherwise it would have a Grant steering wheel, too.

They'd have to use a flat bed to steal my truck, which isn't necessarily safe to assume they wouldn't. That's how they usually steal motorcycles, just throw them in/on a truck and deal with the locks later. They can sometimes do this in broad daylight, not a lot of people are going to second guess a truck being towed if it looks legit.

And easily. Nobody is going to bother with the switch if it's a pain to get at.

Still working on the prototype for one of these for anti theft. Thieves lives mean nothing to me. I'd be more upset if a goldfish died than a thief. Blow them all away with bullets!!!

Yes getting in the door is easy, i do auction cars from wrecking yards occasionally so I'm not just a thief. Getting in the door can normally be done in under a minute. Best advice for ignition is put a kill switch to the fuel pump

Check this out, I read on here on another thread one time where someone suggested getting an old cell phone off of ebay or something for like $50, you never have to activate it so there is no cell phone bill or anything but you turn it on and put under the back seat or somewhere out of sight and if your truck gets stolen you can track the cell phone's whereabouts on your computer and if that cell phone is still in the truck somewhere then you know where the truck is... kinda seemed like a good idea.
