maybe I can get Karen to drive separate in the 4Runner and take the baby home and I camp out lol

a "automatic beer dispenser" of Coors sound good? (especially since you taught it to me) lol

yep. you can run your 285s no problem w/ that setup..... that 1/2" of "lift" wont change anything

and the amount of "LIFT" is determined on spring (unless you have Bilstein, Rancho, or other height adjustable shocks) the amount of "TRAVEL" is determined by shock

But the spring is attached to the shock right?

So the height of the lift would still be dependent on how tall/long the shock is, wouldn't it? If the shock is 20" long, but you put a taller spring on it, it doesn't make the shock 23" long...right? Am I missing some obvious newb info here? All this probably sounds stupid, I'm sure there's something I'm missing here, please correct me so I can learn all the things.

that is why they say a suspension lift. The shock helps the spring. But the spring by itself does not provide any lift.

Oh okay, you guys were just saying that the spring is the one that actually pushes up against the vehicle enough to extend the shock to "lift" the truck. Understood. I think I actually knew that much before this, just that the shock is actually just meant to control the upward or downward movement of that wheel. Well technically that lower-control arm I think right, since the wheel is connected to that I believe.

If you can't already tell, I've basically taught myself everything I could about truck suspensions (specifically Tacomas obviously) since earlier this year when I started to plan for purchasing mine. So there are undoubtedly some facts I'm not aware of, just haven't learned them yet.

    Thanks for info btw!

Should I disconnect the whole batter or just the negative terminal?

Definitely not, at least not where we go on the trails. If camping is the only thing you want to do, then you most definitely can as the campsites are just fire roads.

I would be down for that. My truck is a dirt road queen. She goes on dirt roads, but not on "trails."

Sorry, that was worded very awkwardly. No to trail riding, yes to camping only.
