The crutchfield site says you need to splice a wire - was that the case?

Yes, the crutchfield site says if you install the door speakers and the tweeters you need a splice. Here's what the pop up says:

    Speaker Location
    Speaker mounting location:
    Front Door
    • Use the factory speaker grilles.
    • A speaker adapter bracket is required, and it's included free with your speaker purchase.
    • The front tweeters and the door woofers are wired together at each tweeter location. If you remove or replace the tweeters, you'll have to splice the input and output wires together to keep the woofers working.

Ok. I guess I'm technically not 'removing or replacing' the tweeters. I'm so smart.

I'm going with the 6 3/4" 2 ways in both locations. I will also use the baffles. At least I can report back on a little different setup. It wasn't due to money but the fact the door speakers are one ways with the buzzer cone on them. Backs don't even have that. Hopefully, any crossover in the factory system will still be just as effective. Maybe there won't be one bit of difference. I will also justify it by saying they are both 3.3 ohm and the factory speakers are probably closer to 2 or 3. Is there a little smiles guy blowing text out his a$$. I think I need it for this post. Getting Clazzios the same day. Guess I'll be happy one way or the other eh?

I did this upgrade. My opinion without question a noticeable improvement in sound. It just sounds cleaner and clearer to me. I also Extreme Dynamated my inner and outer door skins. Since you have the panels off you might as well. If you have a double cab you just need two boxes that does double doors. You can use what you trim off to line the outer door skins. You have pretty good access. I would recommend either using the baffles mention in another post or placing some sort of deadening material to the area behind where the speaker magnets are is just bare metal. I didn't change any wiring around or do any splicing , just used the wiring adapters. I think I have plenty of bass.

You won't - my doors will kick much more than the factory speakers. I'm telling you the factory HU has some great power to it based on what I've heard with my speakers

Using the Subaru tweeters with the suggested speakers negates any need to splice anything. I just plug and played all parts (with the included adapters for the doors)

Thanks for the this - I just installed the same tweeters you recommended - super easy install. Definitely a noticeable improvement. Now I'm considering the door speakers. Doh!

My wife is going to hunt you down and probably kill you. Thanks though. I can't stand how soft the sound is in the truck. Crutchfield you pay you a percentage. im sure they are wondering why so many orders for those speakers have come through in the last couple hours!

so it seems from what I have read here that the adapters get put on to the door speakers, making them plug and play? I have never done audio work on a car or anywhere really for that matter, but I am a handy enough person. This shouldn't be too hard right?

yeah for the actual door speaker you use this adapter and connected to the new set of speakers.

But what we don't get is the adapter for the tweeters up front. It seams that you can only get the plug & play with a set of Kickers that are also made for the Subaru.
