Not the spare, I had it on for a day. I replaced the tire and now all four tires are not registering.

Sounds like the shop who mounted that tire should take care of it

There is a procedure in the Owners Manual, after you press the button you have to drive above a certain speed for several miles.

I tried searching for ECU tune on TW and from what I can understand, it's for owners wanting more power out of their engines. I'm okay with the pulling power at stock so I don't think this applies to me.

What I was referring to is engine braking, as I feel being in 2nd gear on an 8% hill going down shouldn't put me at 45mph+ for some of the corners on CA or UT roads. I saw another thread stating engine braking at 4k+ RPMs isn't an issue but wanted to confirm because I wasn't even towing.

that's not correct. the whole push for the tune was for driveability because of the horrible non-linear throttle response, engine muting where you need it (under say 3500rpm), and for the AT guys the wonky shifting and gear hunting. just trying to help out here... the DFCO has become part of the discussion as the tune has developed into some details.

I'm not sure the tune provides you an exact solution, but the power thing is merely secondary and that was never why the early adopters pushed him to do it. and it's all been taken care of with more refinement coming. the throttle control stuff may be what you need, not sure, but those discussions were in the last 5-10 days or so in that thread (the alpha V6 thread).

Not sure how to describe this noise I'm getting but whenever the clutch engages in 1st gear from a stop or putting in reverse---i hear a *catching* or binding noise. I usually hear it when my windows are down and there's not much noise around. Only 5k on the clock so it might be that the clutch is still new, but is this normal? Obviously once i get going i can't hear it due to engine and road noise.

I want to know to, sometimes on a hill start I'll slip the clutch barely while pressing the brake I'll feel and hear a subtle knocking sound.

Agree. The Sport has Hill Start Assist which does this. The OffRoad does not.

45 mph at 4k seems about right because you'll redline at 60. The manual says to not cross 60 in Second

So stoked to join the Toyota Tacoma M/T crew!!

My daughter turns 16 this year and will inherit my old Honda Element soon. I recently went shopping for a new car. Having grown up with manual transmissions, I really have been wanting to go back. My 2 requirements for the new ride: 4X4, M/T. I've looked at everything from a Ford Focus RS to the Dodge Ram. I was at the Toyota/Subaru dealer test driving a Forrester with a M/T. That thing was a bit gutless, so the salesperson tells me they have a white TRD Pro Tacoma with M/T being built. I didn't really know much about them (newb status revealed and admitted). One of my great mentors in life has a 1st gen Tacoma that he is crazy about. All he said was: "get it!!". So I did!

I am thrilled with it so far. I haven't gotten off road much yet, but will be heading out to get it dirty next week. The shift knob on this thing is kind of weird. It's all blocky and shelfy or something, but it's reasonably comfortable I guess. Someone make fun of me for buying the top trim TRDPro as my first Tacoma. (Hey man, I always went for the Taco Supreme-with sour cream) I AM feeling a little newbie sheepish about it, like I haven't earned my stripes or something, but what the hell. The thing makes me giddy!

Congrats!!! That's so cool. I never have held the pro shift knob, but it looks odd to me. I prefer the round ball style shifter.

Autos have a torque converter, which gives you a much lower effective gear ratio on initial take off. Torque converters transform slip in to increased torque until they are locked.

Just picked up my 2017 off road with manual last week. Kudos to Toyota for being the only major manufacturer still offering the stick in a truck. I have a GT350 and a Charger scat pack and I love this truck equally. So fun to drive! (Except they could have spent a little more money on seat padding, my rear end doesn't love this truck).

Dodge still does it with the Ram. I might get it down the line if I ever get a boat that's over 7,000 lbs.

Anyone here try to drive a car with a semi-automatic transmission? Garbage.

The paddles are slightly better than the +/- shifter, but will never compare to a true manual.

My subaru has the paddles, but it still has a CVT so they're not true gears per say. I never use it, except for engine braking down a steep hill.
