Fn scar vs. Acr

i already own a mossberg 500 and am looking to get a new rifle soon, my friends has his AR15 and loves it. I've shot it a few times and its pretty sweet but i heard the ACR is going to be like a one up because it utilizes some of the AR's parts (or something like that) just wondering what you guys thoughts were on either guns and what you would get if you had to money.

 

how much is the FN? if i remember correctly they are brutally expensive

 

I think both are around the 3k-3.5k price range. Ive shot the SCAR and wasnt too impressed with its ability. Also, there are some flaws in it that I'd stay away from (the folding stock will come off in your hand if you use too much force) The ACR looks good but not at that price. My .02, if you wanna put that much into a rifle, buy an HK 416, or POF (patriot ordnance) or save some $$ and buy a regular AR adn get some decent accessories (optics, lights/lasers...) and ammo. hope it helps.

 

yowzas that is a whole lotta money for a gun unless you are special ops/swat/professional competitor etc.

what are you using it for? have you looked at the ruger 556 or any LWRC?

 

well they are mad expensive that's for sure. i'm a lefty and i really like how both are ambidextrous with their functions and all.

idk i just want a rifle and those were the two that intrigued me the most.

 

Im looking at PWC's Diablo or Noveske 7.5 for my close in. I was at a NAVSpecWar unit and got to see a lot of the stuff thats coming to the civilian market. LWRC are great weapons, but damn pricey for what a POF can do just as well imho. Ruger has awesome products and if I could get it in 10.5", Id be all over it. I just finished an M14 on a troy Ind. chassis for my long gun (3-800yds). good stuff. That might be an option you want to look at, SOCOM 16.

 

i saw someone using a socom 16 or something like it last time i went to the range. i would blow my shoulder shooting that thing (i know i have a mossberg but i don't go shooting double-ought bucks all the time with it).

 

There is a really good write up in National Rifleman from 2 or 3 months ago. Good technical info. Go with the AR imo. parts are easy to find and if you know enough you can build one from parts. Comes out a ton cheaper than buying one whole.

SCAR/ACR=not worth it

 

if i had stupid money i would buy the 7.62 SCAR along with about 100 other firearms i can only dream about presently.

They are not worth the cost. We got over 100 SCARs in our unit vault now and I have shot it extensively. Save your money and get a piston AR for half the cost of the SCAR/ACR, then get some quality optics like an ACOG.

 

If I had stupid money my first gun purchase would be a barret .50 cal semi auto.

if you want a semi auto AR type gun gun look into
LMT, Bravo company, Noveske, LWRC to name a few.

 

If I had that kind of money it would be spent on something fully auto.

 

a low end ar15 platform is what $650?! I mean its hard to jsutify 2k more for something that generally does the same thing. I said generally dont flame me lol. I seriously feel like 1300 1400 is the sweet spot for ar's and then blow the rest on a optic, safe, or all the mancessories you want.

Quite frankly all of these gas piston rifles lately are a fix for something that isn't even a problem for a civilian rifle.

And like has already been stated in here. You could build a really nice standard AR for the price of one of the newer gas piston rifles like the SCAR, MR556, or ACR. I have $2240 in my best AR but that rifle also has a Noveske N4 Stainless upper, and that price includes an EOTech. Quite frankly for a civilian rifle it will do everything the gas piston rifles can more accurately and with less recoil.

 

Ya and god forbid anyone take the 20 seconds to field strip an AR. Wipe that shit down for 20 seconds (after five thousand rounds) and take 20 seconds to put it back together.

And you have to look at it in a maintenance perspective. If we in the navy cant get parts for our aircraft, they dont fly. How many scars are there out there? Not a lot to cannibalize from 10 years down the road thats for sure. And if you do find some parts you might have to sell your sister in to slavery for them.

I for one am gonna go ahead and offer a scar for anyone's really hot sister. Just saying.
