Hooking up the brake light on my camper shell today. Which brake light wire on the taillight am I supposed to use or does it matter. Seems like both wires (green & the green with white wires) work from my testing.

I want to say mine is in the green. Either should work by my reckoning as well.

Factory wiring to the 2004 brake lights is green with a white stripe.

Factory wiring to the 2004 tail lights is solid green.

If you're hooking up your shell's third brake light you'd be wanting to tap into the green / white wires.

Yeah. The wires from the brake light. I'm also going to ground the shell and the dome light to the white ground wire in the taillight as well I think. I have also ran the power for the dome light to the battery already.

As long as you are there run a bed outlet if you don't have one or at least the wires. If you are running one wire from the battery and ground might as well do two.

Not sure if it was just mine, but when my camper shell third brakelight was plugged in, my towing trailer lights acted up, and from what I could figure out was the trailer harness didnt like the extra draw.
Dont know if you tow, but I sussed this out only after re-doing the truck AND trailer grounds, harness conns, bulb checks etc.. :(

thanx EnolaGaia. This helped me today to wire my Snogtop shell to 1999 LX.

Only diffference is my 99 has brake light GREEN/RED.

The Shell got RED and WHITE. So I wired WHITE [ground] right under the hook's screw. And RED to GREEN/RED. Don't have any special tool, but it works great ;) :D

Now just have to search for dim light, which is battery operated.Don't like that

Thanx again for this post :)

I hooked the brake light wire into the green/red wire for the power and white for ground. There wasn't green/white as i thought. I also hooked up a lighted switch on the dash for my dome light as a precaution in case i forget to turn off the light in the back.

I ran a power cable with an inline fuse from the battery to a switch in the truck, then I ran a ground for the switch to a nearby screw and also ran another power cable from the switch to the back of the truck and hooked it into the dome light and I also hooked up the dome's ground.

I would have just ran the power cable directly back to the dome but I wanted to have a fail safe (the switch) just incase I forgot to turn it off in the back. I'ts now kind of hard to miss a glowing orange light on the dash.

It took a little time trying to route the wires, but I had alot of fun doing so. I bought a switch from this place. The orange light matches perfectly. http://www.oznium.com/gsw-45-led

    BUMP.

figured it would be better to bump this thread than start a new one...

I have an 01' Taco, how do I access/run the needed wires into the shell? The wire for the shell hook up is on the driver side so it makes sense to tap into the left brake light. Do I need a certain wiring harness? My Shell also has two dome lights.

Here is how I and another member rigged up our lights.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/lighting/165051-how-interior-canopy-light.html#post3387616

As far as your brake light, take out the driver side tail light and use a volt meter to find which wire has power to it when you tap the brakes and splice into that one. The previous owner of my truck had already tapped into the wires for the shells brake light but it wasn't hooked up to it. I went to hook it up and I think the light is bad because I have power going to it, it just won't light up. Either the bulb is bad or the the internals are bad. Either way I'm looking to upgrade to an LED light in the future. For now my shell is brake light-less
