Love my Tacoma! This one replaces a 1998 and a 1985 before that,
Have a couple of questions to anyone that may have the same issues.

I notice that all my exterior painted plastic trim does not have the same paint finish as the metal. (Barcelona Red) It's kind of a fine orange peel finish. Is that normal?

Am having no luck getting my iPhone 6 messages to show up on the info screen. Is that a common issue?

Has anyone pulled out the bed liner and installed any plastic film protector like they have on the bottom of the rear fenders? I am concerned that the over the rail liner will rub away the paint and cause rust down the road.

I was disappointed with the small storage space under the rear jump seats, my 98 had at least a third more storage space. I don't understand Toyota's thinking on the access cab design. If I wanted a truck to seat people in the rear I would buy a 4 door. In the almost 20 years that I had my 98, not once did anyone sit back there. I want behind the seat storage, not seating.

    1. Painted plastic trim? The lower areas of the truck are purposely painted with an orange peel texture in order to be more durable from rock chips and the like.
    2. For your iPhone, ensure it's connected via bluetooth. Go into your bluetooth settings, click the (i) next to "CarAccessorySystem" and ensure the "Show Notifications" is checked to on. Try that first and let me know how it goes.
    3. There is no "bed liner." Our truck beds are entirely composite.
    4. The access cab still doesn't seat anyone the way it's designed (unless you've got a double amputee back there). There's a rear seat delete option that you can source the parts for, which is a factory option for SR trims. Others have built storage and it's pretty well documented elsewhere on the forums (search function works great, you can go to the 3rd gen main forum and check a box to only search the 3rd gen area there).

I am talking about the trim around the headlights, front bumper, and fenders. I will take a look at the dealer lot and see if other Tacoma's have that finish. I understand about the lower panels having that finish, my 98 also had that.

I have done those settings in bluetooth and still do not get messages.

So the whole box will lift out after taking out the 6 torx bolts?

The plastic stuff will not look as good as the sheet metal. Normal. You can improve it some by polishing and waxing.

Enjoy the new truck. Red Rules!!

sometimes* not always and maybe not in your case, the truck was damaged at the dealer and they painted it but cant match 100%. just go look at the same color on another truck and see if you notice the same mismatch.

Why are you wanting to remove the Bed from the Truck? If you want some kind of protection for it you can get a Bed Mat from Toyota.

My trim seems fine, as others have stated though, painted plastic rarely looks as good as the metal areas, but I wouldn't describe mine to be as bad as an orange peel texture.

For the bed box, essentially yes. There's obviously a lot more clips and bolts holding the bed rail, bed sides, etc. in, but those six bolts are the main ones holding the bed in place. If you crawl under you'll see how it meets the frame. If the factory service manual wasn't a pain in the ass to use I could find you a diagram.
