Anybody on here have experience hauling a mattress and box spring (queen) with their Taco? I've gotta haul a set in my short bed from Santa Cruz to San Francisco and was looking for any pointers. I've never hauled anything that bulky in my truck, so...I thought I'd ask here.
    • Do I need ratchet straps for tie down? If not, what else could/should I use?
    • Do you cover the mattress and box spring in anything? Recommendations for something if so?
    • If you've done it, how did you position it in the bed (and tailgate down)?

Get a mattress bag from any self storage center. It'll keep bug splatter off your pillow for $6 or so.

I laid mine down length wise with the mattress on top (one side of wheel well, leaned over to bed side on opposite side of truck), then ratchet strapped down. The mattress will squeeze down from the straps and put more pressure on the box spring. Two straps over the top. One behind so they don't slide backwards.

Do you happen to remember the length of the ratchet straps and did you cross them (rear driver tie down to front passenger tie down)? I was looking at getting 16ft tie downs which should be long enough.

    That'll be plenty long.

I like to front/rear instead of crossing for that kind of thing, but personal preference maybe? I just don't want it flying out of the truck. Front and rear holds down 2 points. Crossing them holds down wherever the cross point is, so really not just 1 hold down point with 2 tie downs.

No lol. They're basically brand new. Maybe 3k miles on them. Toyota put them on when I got my truck. It was a congratulatory "promotion"
