Not that I'm going to get a Tacoma anytime soon, but I was looking on the Toyota website and noticed that there is not an option for a skid plate on the TRD Sport trim. is there a reason for this?

Because it's not worth wasting your money on. There are plenty of brands that sell skids that will actually protect your rig ie: pelfreybilt, Mobtown, sos, relentless, bamf. Don't waste your money on a Toyota skid

And if steel isn't your thing, some companies also offer aluminum versions. Not as strong as steel but way stronger than the flimsy oem skid. Did I mention the weight difference.

No problem, thank you! reason I didn't answer your question and was kind of blunt is because Toyota is just ridiculous. You can seriously pay the same price for a skid that will actually protect you. Sure it doesn't look "cool" like the "pro" version but I'm my opinion it's cheesy.. Do your research with the companies I said earlier. A lot of them have deals from time to time. Add them on social media. It will help

I believe its because you have the air dam which has to be removed.
Once you remove the air dam I believe you are good to go.

Nope air damn is has nothing to do with it... as it attaches to the bumper and the factory skid is right behind it. It just doesn't have a transmission, transfercase, or fuel tank skid.
