Throw away the little bracket that holes the wire loom and cut open one of the loops of electrical tape.

forgot to come back and post from a few months ago but since i didnt want to pay for the new pump and valve I ended up just using a bypass kit from hewitt-tech. trucks been fine since I put it in. it needs an extra half a second sometimes to turn over on startup but thats it. I dont have to smog my vehicle unless I sell it so it was a good option for me. but if you have to smog it wont work.

Hello, If Twalt87 is out there, has your setup with the Tundra valves on the Tacoma valve body proven to work with any problems. It been about 4 months now, that should have given you a lot of starts, I'm really hopeful for a good outcome. My truck is a 2012 and no problems yet, but I'm sure its only a matter of time. This is by far the cheapest fix I' have seen. thanks in advance for the great write up and pictures.

I did Twalt87's Tundra valves about 3 weeks and 4000 miles ago (I'm a salesman). No CELs. No issues.

Some, left the bottom peice on the truck. I could have cleaned it but here was no where enough to stop airflow. Even if I did, the pipe leading into the lower piece would still be full of carbon.

My 2012 finally joined the club this weekend. Went into limp mode while on the Ohio turnpike near Cleveland during rush hour and was nearly sandwiched between a couple of semis. Was able to limp to my destination while at the same time infuriating every person behind me in the slow lane.
Pulled the air pump for inspection and found it clogged up with the gummy remnants of the sponge filter. I cleaned out the fan and at least was able to free it up then moved on to the valves. Here I found plenty of carbon build up and degradation of the rubber. I did a pretty through cleaning and a code reset hoping it would get me up in running until I figured out a solution. Luckily no return of the CEL but it will be back soon.

Also sent in detailed and professional complaints to NHTSA and Toyota yesterday. Was shocked to get a response back from Toyota USA by 8:30 this morning. The rep was empathetic but offered no immediate solution. That being said, she did admit this was a known issue but Toyota did not have enough complaints to prompt a warranty extension similar to the Tundra. Her suggestion was to get everyone on the various forums to send in the complaints en masse to prompt more action. She also strongly recommended keeping any repair receipts for reimbursement in the case of a service bulletin. Not sure if this means anything at all but I hold out hope for some sort of change via Toyota before my CEL flashes again.

2013 DCLB. Add me to the list with code P2443. Trying to get this paid for via ECP. The dealer just quoted me $1100 CAD in parts.

The sad part is this: The solution is $13 Toyota. Just do it. Oh, plus $100 dealer labor for 10 minutes.

I finally ordered the uni filter...

Seeing as we are beginning to have more and more 12+ owners come out of the woodwork with this issue. I don't mind replacing the valves with the cheaper tundra setup, but I'm not paying $400 for a pump that was screwed over by 5cents worth of foam.

So I had my valve replaced... And I have the old unit. Can these be rebuilt or is it just junk now?

They can be cleaned out to squeeze a little more life out of (possibly). You can also replace the actual valves on the housing. The Tundra setup is about $200 on rock auto. They bolt to a different assembly but are functionally the same.
