I like what I see so far. A couple of questions; weight of unit, access to bed cubbies, how it is mounted, 2nd gen compatible, height of unit. I have built drawer systems for other trucks, there heavy, I made mine to sit just above the wheel wells, maximizes sleeping room.

Decked has put out most of its information about the Tacoma system at sema.

its a very nice storage system, but you loose all of the bed carry capacity because of the height if it were slimmer where you would have at least 1/2 the height that would give you a little more area to haul stuff with, like wood, dirt, miscellaneous., maybe a better idea for the Tacomas is something that is non sliding that would just cover the wheel well humps along each edge of the bed and leave the area between them open., with top mounted access doors.

I can't think of a mod that more reduces the utility of the vehicle as both a overland rig, or a pickup truck than these permanent bed slider drawers.

    Some reasons:

1- Unnecessary weight and space from slider system.

2-no ability to rearrange the bed to fit incidental loads you might need to carry during a trip (this happens quite often if you spend a lot of time off road).

3- you can't put your gear in another truck or into storage easily if you have a mechanical breakdown or are simply not camping or wheeling, nor can you carry your buddies gear in a pinch.

4- you gotta roll the whole drawer out (maybe uphill/ maybe in the rain / maybe into a snow bank) to get at the stuff in the back of the drawer.

5- no room for loads that don't fit the form-factor of the drawers.

Personally, I'll take a Rubbermaid bin and a tie-down strap any day over this. I like to have options. A pass for me.

    Looks cool though!

That looks heavy. I would guess between 300-400 lbs.

    Plus it's 1,100 clams for 2 drawers.

    And a bottle opener.

Honestly this is a great post. You point out a lot of reasons why this drawer wouldn't work for you. But there are plenty of reasons why it would work for someone else. (Especially someone like me)
Obviously this mod is not for you. And not for most people. However, if you need to carry tools around a lot it will come in handy. It's not your offroading perfect fit. But that's not exactly who its marketed to. It's for the working man who needs tools close by and would like them to be secure without having to take them in and out of their garage every time possible.

Utility box bodies are about the same cost, and basically better in functionality. Delete bed, add box.

You lose about 33% useable storage in the back of 'decked'.

So much hate for these. If it doesn't work for you that doesn't mean they suck. This is exactly what I need and will fit my needs perfectly, and from other sites I've been on it seems I'm not the only one.

I really like the idea of these, but having to haul a bunch of boxes to a storage unit made me realize it wasn't for me either. If I didn't need to use my bed very often this would be great. I feel like a lot of the people who will buy this were stuck between a 4runner and a Tacoma and went with the Tacoma for the truck looks. It basically turns the truck into an SUV, but some will be ok with that. Nice product..... I had no idea the truck vault systems were so pricey! Can anyone conform what others have said, 3-4k???

Damn..... That's nuts. I thought you had to call them to get a quote or something, thanks for that. The truck vault looks a little better IMO, but not $2400 worth.

What kind of utility box bodies are you referring to? Do you have any links?

You're talking about the guy who already has it then probably that's much. Is that a lot?

I don't know the exact amount weight, I'm estimating the 200lb deck system plus atleast 100lbs of cargo including spare for atleast 300lbs in that truck. For a truck like the OPs their is a total available 1100lbs. He probably has at most 800lbs remaining.

    http://www.northerntool.com/shop/to...+truck-tool-boxes+side-mount-truck-tool-boxes

You can do 2 side mount locking boxes for about half the cost of decked. That was a route I was considering with my 2016 Taco. I could still load a kennel in the bed and keep my shotguns, ammo, general camping and hunting crap in the side mount boxes.

I see a lot of this around Montana- http://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/12766-A-very-nice-built-FWC-on-Ford-super-duty

A few serious bird hunters use service bodies for guns, ammo, dry storage and leave the bed deep for kennels etc. I can get a used service body for $500 on Craigslist. Finding one for a 'yota is tough. The few I see are basically guys using a flatbed with their own rigged boxes. Actually there a number of old Toyotas with flatbeds- it's a pretty efficient elk hauler, lol.

I can't even count the number of guys I know that regularly carry over 1000lbs in their beds/in their truck with no issues, me included. Shouldn't be any need for concern.
