Oh boy. It works because you have a cellphone plan. No plan, no tracking. You can't just buy a cellphone and track it without a provider.

I don't know what cops are and aren't tasked to do, but isn't this the point of LoJack? Car reported stolen, cops get information in NCIC, beacon activates, cops recover stolen car?

Sure, but they have passive trackers in patrol cars that can and will activate as they're on regular patrol and possibly enroute to other calls etc

Oh boy, I have an android cell phone right here in my hand that does not even have a simm card in it. No cell plan at all and I can still track it there... whats up with that?

I like this idea. It's easy enough as is. Securing the phone enough that you don't have to worry about in a spot it can't be found easily but yet retrieved easily for emergencies is the ideal. This might be worth a separate thread.

I was picturing an Otterbox rig with a velcro strap around it holding it together, and then that tucked behind the tail light or something.

With a little time, you could probably even disassemble a cheap phone to the bare bones you need, strip the camera speakers etc, make it easier to hide behind stuff like the dome light and maybe even power it off of that. Or whatever, something similar.

One of the door pockets might work or under the seat or even leave it in plain sight, the thieves probably wouldn't suspect it is being tracked.

50/50 on that I think. Either think it's part of the score, or a risk and would toss it.

    Too few to list.
I have GTAV in Xbox360, PS3, and PS4. Just one of those games I have to have.

GTA V on PC was one of my better decisions. Such an upgrade from Xbox360...

if the phone is registered with google but has no cell service you can go to google play store and up in the right hand corner is a gear, click there and bring it down to "Track my Phone"
Edit, maybe its Track my Device.

I have never tried that but I bet you can because its using the gps instead of cell towers. Try it and let us know.

We have this cat that pisses around my house then leaves and goes home , could never figure out the owner but I know shes a house cat. Would it be wrong if I duct tape the phone to her and track her owner down, ha?

In my old 82 Toyota hilux there was a rod that connected the gas pedal to the carburetor that could be popped off in a second and while there just take the coil wire too. Besides having steering wheel lock and brake pedal lock. Now just using the steering wheel and pedal lock on clutch pedal since that = starter kill...along with lojack. Oh, and the best thing while at home = garage.
