ARB bumper suspension sag with my lift?

Hi guys,

I've been searching around for an answer to my question and haven't turned up with anything yet, so I figured I'd shoot it fresh in a new thread. And thoughts would be greatly appreciated .

I have an '03 4x4 Access Cab with a 2.5" lift. The lift includes a 2.5" coil spacer up front (on my stock springs) and a 1.5" add-a-leaf in the rear.

My question is: if I put an ARB front bumper on, will it be too heavy for my stock front springs? Are there any issues that anyone can forsee with this setup?

Also, should I get stiffer front coils, and if I do, will that cause a slight "bro-lean"?

the arb will definately make the front sag a bit. ..you won't know how much until you try it.

i would suggest gettting adjustable coilovers with a 650 to 700# spring. that way you can compensate for the sag.

 

Do you have TRD progressive rated springs or non TRD?

And Space Wrangler, do you think I should upgrade to the coilover setup before putting the bumper on?

 

I would put the bumper on and then see how much of a sag it is. Then decide if you wanna get coilovers or not.

 

Right on, thanks for the advice. I was thinking the same, but I don't want to get the bumper on there, have a ton of sag, and then have to wait to get my coilovers.

I suppose swapping the old bumper back on until I get my coilovers is always an option...plus, it gives me an excuse to spend the whole day drinking beers in the garage!

 

if you have the bumper, you don't have to install it to see how much it will drop you. just take some measurements, then put some blankets on your hood and set the bumper on it. an easier way would be to wratchet strap it to the front so it hangs off the ground. then measure, this will give you a rough idea of what you are dealing with. it will be less, because your factory bumper will be on there.

 

Do you plan to put a winch in that bumper too? You can probably count on doubling the added weight if you do.

I had a TJM bumper (very similar to the ARB) on my 98 non-TRD with a similar spacer setup to yours with no winch. The TJM did not cause the front to lower very much at all. At most, I lost about a half inch in height.

 

I put mine on with billy's at 2.5 on stock springs and i lost alittle lift. I ended up putting 886 coils on because I was adding a winch and skids.

The guy I bought it from had a stock truck and said he had no issues

 

the spacers must help. one of my friends had his ARB put on his 04 a couple weeks before he got his lift and it sagged like crazy

 

You shouldn't get much sag with just the ARB, as it is relatively light (I could pick up mine alone when I was installing it). If you add a winch though, then you will see sag.

 

the sag isn't going to be noticeable immediately. ..well, not much anyway. what you will notice is that it will get worse over time. the repeated cycling of the springs with the added weight will exacerbate the sagging.

i say put whatever bumper you want on the truck and wheel it. ..when the front starts to sag more than you like, buy some adjustable coilovers. ..problem solved.

 

I put an ARB front bumper on my truck bout a month ago. To account for the weight and sag I put on 2 inch spacers. No sag to really speak of now.
